Parks and
Recreation Teamwork awards presented at annual holiday luncheon
The Lawrence Parks and
Recreation Department held its annual Holiday Luncheon and Teamwork Recognition
on Friday, December 16. During the luncheon, the Tom Wilkerson Teamwork
Awards were presented to various individuals and groups inside and outside the
department (see attached report
and program for more
information):
- Lynn Applegate,
facility maintenance supervisor; Steve Jacob, park and facility
maintenance II; Bill Rogers, park and facility maintenance II and John Shrum, park and
facility maintenance II, for their assistance of moving staff
from South Park Recreation Center to the Community Building. Rogers
also received an individual award for rearranging the fitness equipment
storage room.
- Jessie Kwatamdia,
Douglas County Senior Services, for coordinating senior programming with
parks and recreation staff.
- The City of
Lawrence Public Works Department for resurfacing the parking lot at Broken
Arrow Park and developing a turn lane exiting the park to assist with
traffic flow.
- Micah Seybold,
GIS coordinator,
for his work on developing the GIS maps for the cemeteries’ plots that are
searchable on the City’s website.
- Johnson and Nancy
Shockley, for volunteering for Special Populations programming.
- Black &
Veatch, Westar Energy, Kissick Construction, Electrical Corporation of
America, Hammel Scale of Kansas City, Inc., Wolf Construction,
Midwest Concrete Materials and Atlas surveyors for donating the playground
along Burroughs Creek Trail at 15th St. and their assistance with
the construction of the playground.
- Walt Ward, city
surveyor, for
assisting horticulture staff when forestry duties were combined with the
division, helping them understand issues pertaining to property rules like
easements and right-of-way areas.
Parks and
Recreation holiday activities
Santa Claus made numerous visits to Parks and Recreation activities in
December, including the Breakfast with Santa event and the Special Populations
Coffehouse program. Parks and Recreation staff members Bill Rogers and Rod
Hoffer both filled in for Santa. Please see the attached report for more information and
