Mayor and Chair of the Arts Commission to present award checks for 15th Annual Lawrence Arts Commission Community Arts Grants
Project Description/History:
The Lawrence Arts Commission-Community Arts Grant program began in 1995 with the expressed purpose of providing grants funds intended as start-off money for projects or special community art related ventures with a particular focus on encouraging the arts within the Lawrence community.
Since the Community Arts Grant program inception, the Lawrence Arts Commission has provided grant funding totaling approximately $67,000 to over 140 organizations and artists.
Project Status/Details:
The Lawrence Arts Commission’s 15th Annual Community Arts Grant recommendations were selected based on the following five criteria: 1) proposal clarity, 2) benefit to the community, 3) support from community, 4) potential for increasing community participation in the arts, and 5) community collaboration & partnership.

Project Funding: Funding for this program is through the Special Recreation Fund. Funds are available in the 2009 budget for this project.
Action Requested: The Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission recommends and request that the Mayor issue the 2009 Community Arts Grant checks to the grant awardees as shown in the table above at the April 21, 2009 City Commission meeting.
