RE:

2009 Aerial Photography project

2009 Aerial Photography project   The City and Douglas County recently sought to utilize a Shawnee County contract together with three adjacent counties for new half foot resolution color aerial photography to be captured in early 2009.  Those participating are the City of Lawrence, Douglas, Shawnee, Jefferson and Leavenworth counties.

Aerial Photography datasets   The city has typically updated aerial photography every 3 years since 2000.  The aerial photography is a valuable resource used daily by city staff to help accomplish tasks and answer questions that are specific to their jobs.  The information is also accessed frequently by citizens and engineering/design firms via the City’s interactive GIS webpage.

Purchase Options   On December 19th, 2008 Shawnee County received sealed bids on behalf of the cooperative four counties.  Aero-Metric was selected to fly the aerial photography.  The City will be responsible for $15,130.50 to pay for the 131 square miles (which is the Urban Growth Area) within Douglas County.  The University of Kansas Design and Construction Management Department (KUDCM) has formally agreed to cost share with the City for aerial photography.  KUDCM will be billed by the City for $207.90.

Project Funding

The 2009 Aerial Photography project is funded 66% by the Utilities Department and 33% by Public Work/Stormwater Division.  This project was budgeted in 2009 for $40,000.00.
