CONTRACTOR SERVICES – PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT – #B09002
Parks and Recreation requested bids for unit pricing of electrical work, plumbing, and HVAC work. This bid is for small jobs and small repairs costing less than $15,000 for the 2009 calendar year and was written so other City departments can utilize the pricing. The bid was also written to be renewed for two additional years providing prices remain the same, both parties agree and funds are available.
Randall Electric bid higher on the hourly rate for journeyman electrician than P1 Group and Mohl Electric however Randall Electric’s rate for an apprentice was less than P1 Group and Mohl Electric. Approximately 95% of calls for electrical work require a journeyman and an apprentice making Randall Electric the least expensive choice for the City.
The HVAC bid was tied between Chaney and McElroy’s for the technician rate and McElroy’s apprentice rate was lower however McElroy’s is based out of Topeka and charges for transportation time as well as a trip charge. McElroy’s response time for emergencies is also a concern. We feel Chaney will be the lowest cost and have the shortest response time in an emergency.
Parks and Recreation estimated there could be up to $135,000 spent on these jobs. These projects will come out of many accounts that were approved in the 2009 budgeting process.
Recommendation Action:
Award bid for unit price for Parks and Recreation Department for electrical work to Randall Electric, plumbing to First Management, and HVAC work to Chaney, Inc. not to exceed $135,000.00 (Parks and Recreation accounts)
