RE: |
14th and Tennessee Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project Consultant Selection – Project CS07-02 |
Please include the following item on the consent agenda for the January 9, 2007 City Commission meeting.
Negotiate an Engineering Services Agreement with BG Consultants, Inc. to design the 14th and Tennessee Sanitary Sewer Replacement.
Project Description/History: Vitreous clay sanitary sewer beneath Tennessee Avenue in the area bounded by 14th Street and 16th Street is approximately fifty years old. The deteriorating sewer has caused a portion of the associated pavement to collapse. Manholes currently located in a parking lane and a length of sewer that changes direction without a manhole has caused access issues for maintenance activities.
Project Status/ Details:
November/December 2006: The Utilities Department requested engineering/design proposals and received responses from seven firms. BG Consultants; Delich, Roth, and Goodwillie (DRG); Landplan Engineering; Larkin Group; Professional Engineering Consultants; Peridian Group; and Wilson & Company have indicated an interest in the project.
Utilities Department staff evaluated the proposals and based on responses meeting criteria for project approach, firm experience and availability, have ranked the top three responses as follows:
1. BG Consultants, Inc.
2. Professional Engineering Consultants
3. Peridian Group
We recommend negotiating an engineering services contract with BG Consultants, Inc. based on the project team’s commitment to meeting schedule and familiarity with City projects. It is anticipated the engineering contract will be amended if inspection services become necessary (i.e. cannot be performed by department inspectors).
We anticipate the following project schedule:
Execute Engineering Agreement: January, 2007
Final Design Memorandum: March, 2007
Award Construction Contract: May, 2007
Complete Construction: August 1, 2007
Project Funding: Funding is provided by the Utilities Capital Improvement Program non-bonded funds.
Action Request. The Utilities Department seeks approval from the City Commission to negotiate an Engineering Services Agreement with BG Consultants, Inc. to design the 14th and Tennessee Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project.
