ITEM NO. 1:

Review and approve the minutes of the Traffic Safety Commission meeting, November 6, 2006.

The minutes were not ready; this item was deleted.

ITEM NO. 2:

Consider request from the North Lawrence Improvement Association to establish NO PARKING along the south side of Ash Street between 7th Street & 8th Street.

Woosley reviewed the information provided in the staff report.

Kelli White, 734 Ash Street, distributed material (attached) which she read from.

Commissioner Heckler asked if the truck and trailer parked on the street was related to a business; White advised that she did not know.

Commissioner Bowen asked how the proposed parking ban would affect her personally; White advised that she currently has a need to park on the south side of the street occasionally.

Rob Brooks, 708 Ash Street:  The north side of the street is a drop-off and it is almost impossible to park there; the south side is somewhat filled-in; the biggest problem along the street isn’t parking, it’s speeding; I’d like to see a speed bump or something for traffic coming around the corner.

Commissioner Brune noted that the requester indicated there was off-street parking for all the properties, and then asked Brooks if he parked on-street; Brooks advised that they did because they had more cars than could fit in the driveway.

Commissioner Hagen asked if there were any concerns about a fire truck being able to get down the street; Brooks advised that was not a problem.

MOTION BY COMMISSIONER WOODS, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER GRAVES, TO RECOMMEND DENIAL OF THE REQUEST TO ESTABLISH “NO PARKING” ALONG THE SOUTH SIDE OF ASH STREET BETWEEN 7TH STREET & 8TH STREET; THE MOTION CARRIED 8-0.
