The Honorable Mayor and

Members of the City Commission:

As per the Percent for Art resolution, the Lawrence Arts Commission reviewed the committee’s report and recommendation.  The Lawrence Arts Commission rejected the committee’s recommendation and voted to review the three finalists’ maquettes using the criteria listed in the RFQ call for artist qualifications.  The Arts Commission voted to select the piece titled “Beacon” by Actual Size Artworks (Gail Simpson and Aristotle Georgiades).  In forwarding this recommendation to the City Commission for its approval, the Arts Commission would like your authorization for the city manager to enter into a contact with these artists.  The Arts Commissioners would work with the artists concerning some refinements to the piece that would address some artistic issues and concerns.

I will plan on attending the meeting when this is discussed and would like to present to the City Commission.
