City employees bring home awards form Road-e-o competition

(Lawrence, Ks) - City of Lawrence Public Works employees placed high in
the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) Truck Road-e-o on
Saturday, September 21st in Salina.  Jim Garcia, Larry Devers, David
Pentlin and Mike Payne maneuvered various styles of refuse collection
vehicles through a skills course at the Kansas Sunflower Chapter of
SWANA sponsored event.

Garcia won first place in the rear loader refuse truck competition.  He
finished first in this same event 3 years ago and was the SWANA National
Champion in 2000.  His first place finish makes him eligible to attend
the National Championship contest in 2003.  

Devers, in his first year of competition, finished second in the rear
loader event and Pentlin finished second in the roll-off truck event.

"We are very proud of our employees and their outstanding performances
at the skill competition," comments Bob Yoos, solid waste division
manager in the Public Works Department.
