City infrastructure improvement projects

(LAWRENCE, KS) - Contractors will begin the installation of a new
waterline along 9th Street, from Rockledge Road to Highland Drive on
Monday, September 30, weather permitting.

The contractor plans to work between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00
p.m. on weekdays and will be opening driveways and streets each night,
and barricading open excavation areas.

The work will be completed primarily within the City's street
right-of-way and will close portions of the intersections while work is
occurring.  The project should be completed approximately November 29,
weather permitting.

The 2002 Sidewalk repair and construction program will begin on Monday
September 30.  New sidewalks will be constructed along the north side of
31st Street from Harrison Avenue to Lawrence Avenue and along the east
side of Crestline from 9th Street to Yale Road.

The Recreational Path along south side of Clinton Parkway from Kasold
Drive to Crossgate Drive and Iowa Street to Lawrence Avenue will be
replaced.  The path will be closed beginning Monday, September 30 for
construction.

Sidewalk Repairs will occur in the following locations, west side of
Illinois from 4th Street to 5th Street, west side of Delaware from 12th
Street to 13th Street, east side of Ohio from 14th Street to Alumni
Place, east side of Tennessee from 1420 Tennessee south to 1439
Tennessee, and south side West 10th at 1021 West 10th Street.  Sidewalks
will also be replaced in Watson Park by the train and Holcom Park, along
the north side of 27th Street and east side of Lawrence Avenue.

Milling, Overlay 
Quail Creek Court, intermittent lane closures

Quail Creek Drive, Tam-O-Shanter to Quail Creek Court, intermittent lane
closures

10th St., Massachusetts to New Hampshire, completed

Powers, Harper to 17th, intermittent lane closures, completed
approximately October 11, weather permitting

N. 3rd, Maple Grove drainage ditch south 200 feet, intermittent lane
closures, completed approximately October 18, weather permitting

Frontage road, east side of Iowa Street, 27th Street to Four Wheel
Drive, completed

Storm sewer improvements

21st Street, closed, Ousdahl Road to east of Naismith, completed
approximately May 2003, weather permitting

Naismith southbound, closed south of 19th Street, completed
approximately September 31, weather permitting

19th Terrace, 20th Street and 20th Terrace, open to local traffic,
periodical closure during work day

31st St., Ousdahl Rd. to Iowa St., traffic reduced to one lane each
direction

Manhole repairs
Various locations throughout the city, completed approximately
mid-December, weather permitting

Large Line Cleaning and Inspection Project
27th and Crossgate, intermittent traffic interruption
31st and Atchison, intermittent traffic interruption
2nd and Michigan, intermittent traffic interruption
31st and Louisiana, intermittent traffic interruption
project should be completed approximately October 31, weather permitting

Water line installation
Vermont Street, 23rd Street to 2368 Vermont Street, parking restricted
and traffic from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., completed approximately October
15, weather permitting

Intersection of 9th and Iowa, traffic interruptions, completed
approximately November 30, weather permitting

Road improvements
Ousdahl Road, 31st Street to 33rd Street, closed, completed
approximately November 1

Curb Repair
700 and 800 blocks of Massachusetts Street, completed 

Sanitary sewer project
Belle Haven, Utah Ct to 27th St, Survey and design work underway
Louisiana, Utah Ct to 27th St, Survey and design work underway

Bridge repair
Route 438 or Kasold Drive bridge over the Kansas Turnpike, completed
approximately October 11, Kasold Drive closed to through traffic from
Peterson Road (N 1700 Road) to Lakeview Road (N 1800 Road)

Recreational Path closing
Clinton Parkway, south side, Kasold Drive to Crossgate Drive and Iowa
Street to Lawrence Avenue, closed beginning September 30
