Still time to submit a Phoenix Awards nomination

(LAWRENCE, KANSAS)  -- The Lawrence Arts Commission is seeking
nominations for the 7th Annual Phoenix Awards.  The Phoenix awards
recognize people in the Lawrence community who have contributed
remarkable service to the arts. 
Nominating individuals are encouraged to take the time to complete a
nomination form and recognize a person who has contributed to the
Lawrence arts community.  By recognizing the contributions, nominators
can show appreciation of the individuals.
The selection committee focuses on the creative achievement, length and
intensity of arts activities and leadership and contribution to the
excellence and availability of the arts when evaluating nominations.
Award categories include musical arts, visual arts, performing arts,
arts education, literary arts, arts volunteer and the Phoenix Award for
exceptional artistic achievement.
Nomination forms are available at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New
Hampshire, in the City Manager's Office at City Hall, 6 East Sixth St.
and the Lawrence Public Library, 747 Vermont.  Nominations forms are
also on the City's web site at www.lawrenceks.org or

The deadline for nominations is Tuesday, October 1 at 5pm.  Nomination
forms must be returned to the City Manager's Office in City Hall, 6 East
Sixth St.
The 2001 awards were given to Winnefred Gallup and Larry Maxey for
musical arts, Deborah Bettinger for performing arts, Jan Gaumnitz and
Joe Skeeba for visual arts, Betsy Starman for arts education and Hobart
Jackson for Exceptional Artistic Achievement,

The Awards will be presented on Sunday October 27, 2002 at 2:00pm at the
Lawrence Art Center.
