Community commemoration program announced

(LAWRENCE, KS) - The Lawrence community event that will commemorate the
victims of September 11 and offer a message of hope and encouragement
announces the planned program.

The event will be held on Wednesday, September 11 at 6pm at Haskell
Indian Nations University stadium, 155 Indiana Avenue.  The event is
free and open to the public.

Hank Booth will host the ceremony.  A color guard processional including
the Lawrence/Douglas County Fire/Medical color guard, the Lawrence
Police Department Honor Guard, the American Legion color guard, the
Haskell color guard, a color guard from the Veterans of Foreign Wars and
a unity guard from KU ROTC will begin the ceremony with the presentation
of colors.

Members of both the Lawrence High School Band and Free State High School
Band will play the National Anthem.  A Haskell Drum group will perform a
memorial song and a moment of silence will be observed.

Reverend Leo Barbee will deliver the invocation and messages will be
delivered by Mayor Sue Hack, Major General Greg Gardner, Adjutant
General of Kansas and Director of Emergency and Homeland Security, Casey
Douma, Haskell Student Body President and David Johnson, Bert Nash.
Reverend Paul Taylor will deliver the benediction.
