CITY INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS; TRAFFIC IMPACTS AND BUS
REROUTES
(LAWRENCE, Ks) - Activities in Downtown will impact traffic on Saturday,
Sept. 8 and on Friday, Sept. 14. On Saturday, Sept. 8, Massachusetts
Street will be closed from Seventh Street to South Park for the KU Band
Day Parade from about 1 p.m. until the end of the parade. On Friday,
Sept. 14, from noon through the end of the day, Eighth Street will be
closed to through traffic from Massachusetts Street to New Hampshire
Street for the Get Downtown event.
On-going City infrastructure improvement projects for the week of Sept.
10 include:
Project: Mill Overlay and Curb Repair, Phase 1
Traffic Impact: Traffic may be interrupted or reduced to one lane during
days work is being conducted on the following streets:
Highland Drive, Sunset Terrace to W Ninth Street, work underway
Sunset Drive, Sunset Terrace to W Ninth Street, work underway
Williamsburg Court, Williamsburg Place to the cul-de-sac, completed
Williamsburg Place, cul-de-sac to Inverness Drive, completed
Project: Kasold Drive reconstruction north of Peterson and KTA bridge
Traffic impact: Kasold Drive open from Peterson Road to Tillerman.
Access to Huntington Road, Grand Vista and the KTA Bridge is closed.
Project: Lawrence Memorial Hospital expansion project
Traffic impact: Fourth Street closed between Florida and Michigan.
Project: 2007 Overlay Program Phase 2
Traffic impact: Traffic may be interrupted or reduced to one lane during
days work is being conducted on the following streets:
Ousdahl Road, 19th Street to 23rd Street, work underway
Ousdahl Road, 23rd Street to 25th Street, work underway
24th Street, Naismith to east of Ousdahl Road, work underway
Naismith, 23rd Street to 24th Street, work underway
Project: Concrete repairs
Traffic impact: Crestline Drive between Bob Billings Parkway and
University Drive reduced to one lane.
Bus Reroutes
Saturday, Sept. 8: Band Day
On Saturday, Sept. 8, Massachusetts Street will be closed from Seventh
Street to South Park for the KU Band Day Parade. From about 1 p.m. until
the end of the parade, buses will use layover points at the corner of
Ninth and New Hampshire and the corner of Ninth and Vermont. When
downtown, Routes 6 and 8 will pick up and drop off passengers at Ninth
and Vermont. Routes 1, 2, 3, 4, and 7 will pick up and drop off
passengers at Ninth and New Hampshire.
Friday, Sept. 14: Get Downtown
On Friday, Sept. 14, from noon through the end of the day, Eighth Street
will be blocked off from Massachusetts Street to New Hampshire Street
for the Get Downtown event. Route 6 Counter-Clockwise and Route 8 will
reroute during that time. From Ninth Street, buses will travel south on
New Hampshire, west on Tenth, north on Vermont and back on route.
Regular routes will resume Saturday morning.
Route 8 reroute at Ousdahl
While crews complete road repairs to Ousdahl Rd. between 19th and 23rd
Streets, Route 8 is rerouting to Naismith Dr. The bus shelter on Ousdahl
Rd. near Taco John's will be closed during the reroute. Passengers
wishing to catch the Route 8 Southbound on Ousdahl should move to the
north side of 23rd St., before Ousdahl Rd. Passengers wishing to catch
the Route 8 Northbound on Ousdahl Rd. should move to the south side of
23rd St. and wait at the bus stop sign in front of Perkins Restaurant.
