GYM TO BE OPEN TO TODDLERS

LAWRENCE - The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department's Toddler Open
Gym will begin on Monday, Sept. 10, and runs throughout the fall, winter
and spring ending on May 16, 2008. The program is held at the Community
Building, gymnasium, 115 W. 11th St.  

 

The gym is open to toddlers and children ages 6 and under every Monday,
Wednesday and Friday from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The fee is $1 per child to
participate.  No pre-registration is required.

FISH'N 4 FUN DESIGNED FOR LITTLE ANGLERS

LAWRENCE - Hooks, lines and worms help make the "big catch" a reality at
Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department's Fish'N 4 Fun fishing derby.

 

Children, ages 13 and younger, are invited to participate in this annual
event from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 15, at Mary's Lake, located
off the trail near Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St.

 

The cost to participate is $5 per child. All child anglers are asked to
provide their own fishing poles and bait. This is a catch/release event.


 

Parents are asked to provide supervision for children.  Children are not
required to hold a fishing license; however parents and/or guardians
must be licensed to fish.

 

Prizes provided by Hacks Outfitters, 941 E. 23rd St., will be awarded
throughout the derby.  Lunch will be provided after the derby. Special
guest Cecil Kingsley, National Bass &FLW Tour contender, will be in
attendance.

 

To pre-register visit any Parks and Recreation activity or program,
visit the department's website at www.lprd.org to enroll online or visit
a Lawrence Parks and Recreation facility, including: the Community
Building, 115 West 11th St.; East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 East
15th St.; Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 West 27th St.; Lawrence
Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Dr.; Prairie Park Nature Center,
2730 Harper St.; the Administrative Offices, 947 New Hampshire St. or
South Park Recreation Center, 1141 Massachusetts St.

INDOOR AQUATIC CENTER TO HOST BUCK NIGHT

LAWRENCE - All Lawrence residents will have the opportunity to swim for
just $1 per person from 5 to 8:45 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, at the Indoor
Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Dr.

The pool facility boasts water slides, children's play areas and
concessions. 

 

Waterslides and diving areas close 30 minutes before the facility, and
people must vacate all pool areas 15 minutes to the facility closing.

 

The normal daily admission is $1.75 for ages 5-12, $2.50 for ages 13-17,
$3.75 for ages 18-59 and $2.50 for ages 60 and older.
