Fire and Medical Station public art to be unveiled

(LAWRENCE, Ks) -- The Lawrence Arts Commission announces the unveiling
of the sculpture "Beacon" by artists Gail Simpson and Aristotle
Georgiades of Actual Size Artworks of Stoughton, Wis.

The unveiling is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 2, 4p.m. at Fire and Medical
Station 4, 2121 Wakarusa Drive.  A reception will follow and the artists
will be present to answer questions and describe their work on the
project. The public is invited to attend. 

The sculpture was commissioned by the City of Lawrence at a cost of
$38,000 as part of the City's Percent for Art program.  The program
dedicates up to two percent of construction cost of public facilities
and park land to public art.
