Home Energy Conservation Fair Offers a Look at Conservation Innovations

LAWRENCE - Rising energy costs are an immediate concern for everyone,
homeowners and renters alike. A sensible way to reduce these costs is
to choose products and services that will increase the energy efficiency
of both our homes and personal transportation.

The City of Lawrence invites area residents to learn about practical and
innovative ways to cut energy costs at the 7th Annual Lawrence Home
Energy Conservation Fair. The fair will be held on Saturday, October 13
from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Free State High School, 4700 Overland Drive.
Admission to the fair is free.

Throughout the day there will be opportunities to view energy
conservation exhibits and talk with experts on how products and services
can lower utility bills and increase home energy efficiency. Exhibitors
include area builders, architects, insulators, heating and cooling
experts, government agencies, non-profits, and alternatively-fueled
vehicle representatives. Local businesses will have energy saving
products on site, including high efficiency windows, weather-stripping
and programmable thermostats. Westar Energy, an annual exhibitor, will
be giving away compact fluorescent bulbs. Food will also be available
from Great Harvest, Local Burger and Ingredient.

An expert line-up of speakers will discuss s home weatherization, energy
efficient remodeling, new home construction techniques, wind and solar
energy, and the legislative climate for energy efficiency in Kansas. The
2007 keynote speaker is Kristin Riott of The Climate Project. A veteran
of former Vice President Al Gore's training initiatives, Ms. Riott will
be presenting a slide show on which the Academy Award-winning film, "An
Inconvenient Truth" is based.

The Lawrence Transit System will join the Home Energy Conservation Fair
with a free ridership day on Saturday, October 13. Fares on all eight
fixed-routes of the "T" will be waived. Route 6 Clockwise and Route 6
Counter-Clockwise provide direct access to the Home Energy Fair at Free
State High School. Both routes run on a 40-minute interval. Getting
there on all other routes will require a transfer.
