CITY INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS AND BUS REROUTES
 

(LAWRENCE, Ks) -Weather permitting, the contractor will work on the
downtown waterline project on July 4.  Crews will work on electrical
related items, service connections and cleanup.

 

Work on Kasold Avenue will extend to 23rd Street as contractors begin
milling from 22nd Street to Clinton Parkway creating temporary lane
closures.

 

On July 5, milling will begin on Iowa Street from Sixth Street to Irving
Hill Road.  Temporary lane closures will be used during the mill and
overlay project.  Later in the month, milling will move south on Iowa
Street from the Irving Hill Overpass to 23rd Street also causing
temporary lane closures.

 

Work on the Lawrence Memorial Hospital expansion project will close the
intersections of Fourth Street and Maine and Fourth Street and Michigan
beginning July 5.

 

On-going City infrastructure improvement projects for the week of July 2
include:

 

PROJECT: Installation of inlets, storm sewer pipe and new
sidewalks/wheelchair ramps at 11th Street and Illinois Street.

TRAFFIC IMPACT: West 11th Street from Mississippi Street to Alabama
Street will be closed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday for
duration of project. 

Project should be completed July 3, weather permitting.

 

 

PROJECT: Mill Overlay and Curb Repair, Phase 1

TRAFFIC IMPACT: Traffic may be interrupted or reduced to one lane during
days work is being conducted on the following streets:

Abilene Street from Trail Road to West 5th Terrace, completed

Arizona Street from Trail Road to Frontier Road, completed

Boulder Street from Trail Road to West 5th Terrace, completed

Campfire Court from the cul-de-sac to Campfire Drive, work underway

Campfire Drive from Settlers Drive to Rockfence Place, work underway

Crescent Road from West Campus Road to Naismith Drive, work to begin in
coming weeks

Fireside Court from Mesa Way to West 6th Street, completed

Frontier Road from Riverview Road to West 6th Street, completed

Gateway Court from West 6th Street to the cul-de-sac, completed

Gateway Drive from Mesa Way to West 6th Street, completed

Homestead Drive, completed

Millstone Drive from Trail Road to Rockfence Place, work underway

Trail Road from Lawrence Avenue east, completed

Valley Lane from University Drive to Raintree Place, work to begin in
coming weeks

West 5th Terrace from Kasold Drive to Boulder Street, completed

Westridge Court from Frontier Road east and west to the cul-de-sacs,
completed

 
 
Project: Downtown Waterline Project

Traffic impact: The west side of the 900 and 1000 blocks of
Massachusetts Street. Work will allow for northbound traffic only and
will close parking on the west side of the street in the construction
area. Free parking has been made available on the top level of the New
Hampshire Street parking garage to accommodate the displaced parking.
Pedestrian access will be maintained, but mid-street crossings may be
closed as needed.

Work will occur on July 4.

 

 

Project: CIPP (Cured in Place Pipe) Project

Project involves cleaning, CCTV inspection and trenchless rehabilitation
of selected section of the City's sanitary sewer system in order to
upgrade the interior conditions of the pipe and to improve system
quality. The section of pipe to be rehabilitated by the cured in place
pipe process are scattered throughout the City with Camelback Drive as
the west boundary, Maverick Lane the east boundary, 6th Street the north
boundary and 31st Street the south boundary. Work may sometimes take
place around manholes located in the City's street right-or-way. 

Traffic impact:  Traffic disruption is anticipated to be minimal.

 

 
Project: Kasold Drive reconstruction north of Peterson and KTA bridge

Traffic impact:  KTA bridge open to traffic. Kasold Drive, Peterson Road
to the KTA bridge, closed to through traffic. Local traffic to the
bridge and Calvin Drive-Huntington Road area must use Iowa Street detour
for access. Residents should expect contractors to begin working longer
hours with a few late nights.

 
 
Project: Kasold Drive reconstruction - 22nd Street to Bob Billings
Parkway

Traffic impact:  Traffic is restricted to one lane each direction.  Side
street intersections with Kasold Drive will remain closed. Speeds are
reduced to 20 m.p.h. Milling and overlay operations will be underway
between 22nd Street and Clinton Parkway resulting in temporary lane
closures as the work proceeds.

 

 

Project: 14th and Tennessee Sanitary Sewer Improvement

Traffic impact: West lane of Tennessee Street closed and on street
parking removed.  Intermittent closings of 14th Street and driveways.

 

 

Project: Traffic island installation and concrete repairs

Traffic impact: Work will close 11th Street from Haskell Avenue to
Connecticut and Haskell Avenue from 13th Street to 11th Street.  A
detour using 13th Street and Connecticut Street will be in place.  Local
traffic will be permitted.  

 

 

Project:  KLINK

Traffic impact:  Iowa Street from Yale Road to Sixth Street, temporary
lane closures

Iowa Street, Irving Hill Road overpass to 23rd Street, temporary lane
closures during the month of July

 

 

Project:  Lawrence Memorial Hospital expansion project

Traffic impact:  Michigan will be restricted to southbound traffic only
at Fourth Street.  Maine will be restricted to northbound traffic only
at Fourth Street.  Fourth Street will also be closed between Maine and
Michigan with access onto Arkansas and Missouri.  Left turns will be
prohibited on Fourth Street for westbound traffic at Maine and for
eastbound traffic at Michigan.

 

Bus Reroutes

Route 1 reroute

Repairs near the railroad crossing on 11th Street, west of Haskell
Avenue will reroute Route 1.Passengers wishing to catch the bus on 11th
between Delaware and Haskell will need to move to Delaware between 9th
and 11th. Passengers wishing to catch the bus on Haskell between 11th
and 15th will need to move to Haskell between 15th and 23rd.

 

Route 8 reroute on campus to last the summer

The closure of Jayhawk Boulevard will put Route 8 on a reroute.
Passengers wishing to catch the bus on Indiana St. or Oread Ave. will
need to move to Mississippi St. A good place to catch the bus will be on
Mississippi at the pedestrian crossing linking the Spencer Museum of Art
and the Kansas Union.

 

Route 3 reroute near Hospital

The expansion project of Lawrence Memorial Hospital will reroute Route
3.  Passengers wishing to catch the bus on Maine between 4th and 5th or
on 4th between Maine and Missouri will be able to catch the bus on 5th
between Maine and Missouri or on Missouri between 4th and 5th.

 

Route 6 to reroute for swim meet at Indoor Aquatic Center 

 

The Indoor Aquatic Center will host the annual Roger Hill/Lawrence
Aquahawk Invitational swim meet, bringing approximately 750 swimmers and
1,700 spectators to Lawrence. To avoid traffic congestion, Route 6
Clockwise and Counter-Clockwise will reroute on Friday, July 6 and
Saturday, July 7.  The buses will not travel down the access road to the
Indoor Aquatic Center. Passengers wishing to catch the bus at the Indoor
Aquatic Center will need to move to Overland Dr.
