ADULT VOLLEYBALL REGISTRATION DEADLINE TOMORROW

LAWRENCE - The deadline to register a team for one of Lawrence Parks and
Recreation Department's adult volleyball leagues is Wednesday, Aug. 29.
The registration fee is $185 per team and matches begin Sept. 24.

 

Parks and Recreation offers leagues for a range of skill levels from the
most competitive to the strictly recreational player. The leagues
consist of mixed 4-on-4, women's power, women's recreational, coed
recreation and coed power. All teams must have a minimum of four
players, and each coed team must have two women on its roster.

 

Registration is available online at www.lprd.org or at any recreational
facility.

OUTDOOR AQUATIC CENTER TO CLOSE FOR THE SEASON

 

LAWRENCE - Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department's Outdoor Aquatic
Center, 727 Kentucky St., will close for the season at the close of
business Monday, Sept. 3. The annual Pooch Plunge will take place
Tuesday, Sept. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m.

 

The pool's Labor Day weekend hours will be as follows:

Friday, Aug. 31:      4 to 8:45 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 1:    1 to 8:45 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 2:      1 to 8:45 p.m.

Monday, Sept. 3:     1 to 8:45 p.m.

 

The Outdoor Aquatic Center will reopen next year during Memorial Day
weekend 2008. The Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Dr., remains open
year-round. Its hours of operation can be found on the Parks and
Recreation web site, www.lprd.org.

POOCH ES SET TO TAKE PLUNGE

LAWRENCE - Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department's Outdoor Aquatic
Center, 727 Kentucky St., is going to the dogs! The Fifth Annual Pooch
Plunge will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4. 

 

The Pooch Plunge provides local dogs the opportunity to go for a dip
while their owners learn about Pet CPR and safety from the Douglas
County Chapter American Red Cross. Local businesses will also have
information booths at the pool. 

 

All dogs must have proof of current shots the day of the event, and must
remain under their owner's control at all times. The fee for the event
is $4 per dog. Registration will be available at the door, but owners
may also pre-register online at www.lprd.org. There will be no charge
for spectators.
