U.S. Census Bureau adjusts Lawrence population estimate

 

(LAWRENCE, Ks) - City Manager David Corliss received a letter today from
the U.S. Census Bureau advising the 2005 population estimate for the
City of Lawrence has been changed to 88,664, up from the previous
estimate of 81,816.

 

The City of Lawrence challenged the population estimate earlier this
year.  The city's challenge emphasized that city utility billing and
building permit data indicated that Lawrence's population is growing.  

 

"We believed that Lawrence is growing when we began the challenge and
the Census Bureau's decision confirms our population estimates," said
City Manager David Corliss.
