Provide input to the SDAT Team: Shape Lawrence's FUTURE

(LAWRENCE, Ks) - The community is invited to participate in the work of
the American Institute of Architects Sustainable Design Assessment Team
next week. A public input meeting will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at
6:30 at City Hall, 6 East Sixth Street. The community is invited to
Wednesday night's meeting to talk about all three elements of
sustainability including social, economic and environment.

A six person team of experts from around the nation will be in Lawrence
next week learning about the community and getting an understanding of
the following areas: development, housing/neighborhood/downtown;
government, policy/infrastructure; culture, recreation and historic
preservation and economic: market analysis/ service providers/
merchants. The team's work is part of the AIA grant awarded to Lawrence
for technical assistance.

The SDAT process creates a roadmap for communities seeking to improve
sustainability - as defined by a community's ability to meet the
environmental, economic, and social equity needs of today without
reducing the ability of future generations to meet their needs. The
goal of the SDAT process is for the members of the community to develop
a much higher level of understanding of the issues that will shape our
community for the future, to learn how other communities have
successfully resolved similar issues, and also to engender a greater
ability to communicate in our community.
