City offices to close November 23 and 24 for Thanksgiving; recreation
centers holiday hours announced

(Lawrence, Kansas) - City offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 23 and
Friday, Nov. 24, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Thursday, Nov. 23 residential solid waste collection will be moved to
Friday, Nov. 24.  Friday and Saturday commercial collection will be
completed as normal.

Parking at meters in downtown Lawrence will be free on Thursday.  Friday
and Saturday shoppers will need to pay to park during regular hours from
9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To report a waterline break on a holiday or weekend, call (785)
843-2685. 

The Lawrence Transit System and the T Lift will not run on Thursday,
Nov.23 and will return to regular schedules on Friday, Nov. 24.

Santa Claus' visit to downtown Lawrence may disrupt "T" 

During the arrival of Santa Claus in downtown on Friday, Nov. 24, bus
routes in the downtown area may be disrupted.  Santa's arrival, planned
for 6 p.m., may create delays and temporary reroutes for a short period.

Parks and Recreation announces hours of operation for the Thanksgiving
holiday.

Recreation Centers:  East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St.;
South Park Recreation Center, 1141 Massachusetts St.; Holcom Park
Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St. and the Community Building, 115 W.
11th St. will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22. All centers will
remain closed on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 23.  East Lawrence
Recreation Center, Holcom Park Recreation Center and the Community
Building will re-open on Friday, Nov. 24, from 12 to 6 p.m. but the
office will be closed. Since there are no classes or sports scheduled.
Free Play hours will be available the entire time the centers will be
open.

The centers will resume normal operation hours on Saturday, Nov. 25,
which are:

East Lawrence Recreation Center: 

8 a.m. to 10 p.m.  - Monday through Thursday

8 a.m. to 9 p.m. - Fridays

10 a.m. to 6 p.m. - Saturdays

1 to 6 p.m. - Sundays

Free Play Hours

1:30 to 5 p.m.  - Monday through Thursday

10 a.m. to 6 p.m. - Saturdays

1 to 6 p.m. - Sundays

Holcom Park Recreation Center:

7 a.m. to 10 p.m. - Monday through Thursday

7 a.m. to 9 p.m. - Fridays

10 a.m. to 6 p.m. - Saturdays

1 to 6 p.m. - Sundays

Free Play Hours

1:30 to 5 p.m. - Monday through Friday

10 a.m. to 6 p.m. - Saturdays

Special Populations: There are no programs scheduled for Thanksgiving,
but acting class will be held on Monday, Nov. 20, at Central Junior High
School, 1400 Massachusetts St., from 6:30 to 8 p.m. with the performance
of Footloose will be held on Monday, Nov. 27, at Central Junior High at
7 p.m. All-Star Tumbling will be held on Saturday, Nov. 25, from 11:50
a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at East Lawrence Recreation Center. The Adult
Mini-Trip to Disney on Ice at the Kansas Expocentre in Topeka will be
also held on Saturday, Nov.25.  For more information, please contact

Adult Sports:  There are no programs scheduled for Nov. 22-26. Programs
will resume on Monday, Nov. 27.  For more information, please contact
Bob Stanclift, adult sports supervisor, at 832-7920.

Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St., will be closed on Thursday,
Nov. 23.  They will hold regular hours beginning on Friday, which are:

Mondays - Closed

Tuesdays through Saturday - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sundays - 1 to 4 p.m.

Regularly scheduled free programs on Saturday and Sunday will be held,
which include: Saturday Morning Free Program from 10 to 10:30 a.m. For

Aquatic Division:  Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, will hold
the following hours:

Wednesday, Nov. 22 

Lap Swimming - 5:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. (Warm Water Lap Swimming) - 12 to
1 p.m.

Zero Depth and Children's Area - 1 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. 

Waterslide and Diving Area - 1 to 4:30 p.m.

The center will be closed Thursday, Nov. 23.  It will reopen on Friday,
Nov. 24, with holiday hours. The Competitive Pool will be open from 9
a.m. to 7:45 p.m. for lap swimming and the Zero Depth and Children's
Area will be open from 1 to 7:45 p.m. Warm Water Lap Swimming will be
held from 12 to 1 p.m. The Waterslide and Diving Area will be open from
1 to 7:30 p.m.

The pool will resume its regular operating hours on Saturday, Nov. 25.
Regular hours are the following: 

Lap Swimming
Monday through Friday - 5:15 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.
Saturday - 9 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.
Sunday - 1 to 5:45 p.m.

Waterslide and Diving Area
Monday - Friday - 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Saturday - 1 to 7:30 p.m.
Sunday - 1 to 5:30 p.m.

Warm Water Lap Swim will take place daily, Monday through Friday, from
12 to 2 p.m. 

Zero Depth and Children's Area
Monday - Friday (except Wednesday) - 3:30 to 7:45 p.m.
Wednesday - 2:30 to 7:45 p.m.
Saturday - 1 to 7:45 p.m.
Sunday - 1 to 5:45 p.m.

Carl Knox Natatorium, located on the campus of Lawrence High School,
will be open Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 20-21, for its regular hours -
6:15 to 8:30 p.m. for lap swimming.  It will be closed Wednesday through
Sunday, Nov. 22-26. It will reopen on Monday, Nov. 27, at its regular
operating hours, Monday through Thursday, 6:15 p.m. 8:30 p.m. Carl Knox
Natatorium is closed Friday through Sunday.

There are no scheduled programs or classes scheduled during the week.

Recreation Instruction:  There are no classes meeting during the
holiday.

Special Events:  There are no Special Events planned during the week of
Thanksgiving.

Youth Sports: There are no Parks and Recreation games scheduled for the
weekend of Thanksgiving, but Hoopster league games will be played as
scheduled. For more information, please contact Lee Ice, youth sports
supervisor, at 832-7940.

Eagle Bend Golf Course: Closed on Thanksgiving and will resume regular
operating hours on Friday, Nov. 24. Eagle Bend accepts tee times up to a
week in advance. Open from 8 a.m. to dusk. (Hours may be altered due to
weather/frost). For more information, please contact Eagle Bend at
748-0600.
