Community in 2006

Today's News From Lawrence Parks and Recreation For Wednesday, May 31,
2006

		1) Summer Concerts To Kick Off Tonight

SUMMER CONCERTS TO KICK OFF TONIGHT
LAWRENCE - Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department will once again
sponsor its two summer concert series, one on Wednesday evenings and the
other on Thursdays over the noon hour. Both series are free and open to
the public.

With the support of the Rice Foundation, Lawrence Parks and Recreation
will present the Lawrence City Band throughout June and July every
Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. at the William Kelly Bandstand, located in
historic South Park, 1141 Massachusetts St. The Lawrence City Band is
under the direction of Robert Foster.

Each week the band will play themed music. The following is the summer
schedule:
		May 31 - Season Opener
		June 7 - Classics for Sumer Nights
		June 14 - Flag Day
		June 21 - The First Day of Summer
		June 28 - Heritage and Tradition
		July 5 - Our Own 4th of July Concert
		July 13 - Children's Concert
		July 19 - The Grand Finale Concert
The Thursday Brown Bag Concert Series, co-sponsored by Lawrence Parks
and Recreation and Downtown Lawrence, will continue each Thursday from
12 to 1 p.m. in front of U.S. Bank, 900 Massachusetts St. The concert
series will feature a different band every week. The following is the
summer schedule:
		Jun. 1 - Billy Spears & the Beer Bellies
		Jun. 8 - Lonesome Hobos
		Jun. 15 - Key West Jazz Quartet
		Jun. 22 - Alfred Packer Memorial String Band
		Jun. 29 - Borderline Country
		July 6 - Lonnie Ray Blues Band
		July 13 - Billy Ebeling and the Late for Dinner Band
		July 20 - Country Rhythm
		July 27 - The Konza Swamp Band
