City offices to observe holidays on December 25 and January 1; Parks and
Recreation facilities announce holiday schedules
(Lawrence, Ks) - City offices will be closed Monday, Dec. 25 and Monday,
Jan. 1, in observance of the holidays.
The Lawrence Transit System and the T Lift will not operate on Monday,
Dec. 25 or on Monday, Jan. 1. The system does not provide Sunday
service as part of its regular schedule.
Commercial solid waste routes scheduled for Monday, Dec. 25 and Monday,
Jan. 1 will be made on Tuesday, Dec. 26 and Tuesday, Jan 2. No
residential pick ups are scheduled for Mondays.
There will be no charge for parking at meters in downtown Lawrence on
Monday, Dec. 25 and Monday, Jan. 1.
To report a water or sewer emergency after business hours or during
weekends and holidays, contact the Utilities Department at (785)
843-2685.
Parks and Recreation announces hours of operation for the upcoming
holidays.
Recreation Centers:
South Park Recreation Center, 1141 Massachusetts St., will be closed
Monday, Dec. 25. It will be closed also be closed Monday, Jan. 1, and
will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 2, with its normal hours of operation.
East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St.; Holcom Park
Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St. and the Community Building, 115 W.
11th St. will be open:
Monday, Dec. 18, through Friday, Jan. 5, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, (M-F).
The facilities will be open on Saturdays and Sundays at their normal
hours of operation. They will, however, have altered hours on the
following days:
Sunday, Dec. 24, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Monday, Dec. 25, Closed
Tuesday, Dec. 26, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Sunday, Dec. 31, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. (Holcom Park Recreation Center will
close at 4 p.m.)
Sunday, Jan. 1, Closed
Since there are no classes or sports scheduled, Free Play hours will be
available the entire time the centers will be open. The centers will
resume normal operation hours on Saturday, Jan. 7.
Special Populations: There are no scheduled activities until Monday,
Jan. 8.
Adult Sports: League play is over for the Fall season. Winter league
play for Adult Basketball and Volleyball begins in mid-January.
Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St., will have the following
alternate hours:
Sunday, Dec. 24 and Monday, Dec. 25, Closed
Sunday, Dec. 31, 1
to 4 p.m.
Monday, Jan. 1,
Closed
They will resume normal operating hours beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 2.
Aquatic Division
Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive.

Lap Swimming - 5:15 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. (Warm Water Lap Swimming) - 12 to
1 p.m.
Zero Depth and Children's Area - 1 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.
Waterslide and Diving Area - 1 to 7:30 p.m.
Dec. 23 and Dec 30
Regular Saturday Hours
Lap Swimming - 9:00 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.
Zero Depth and Children's Area - 1 to 7:45 p.m.
Waterslide and Diving Area - 1 to 7:30 p.m.
Dec. 24 and Dec 31
Regular Sunday Hours
Lap Swimming - 1 to 5:45 p.m.
Zero Depth and Children's Area - 1 to 5:45 p.m.

The Indoor Aquatic Center will resume its regular operating hours on
Wednesday, Jan. 3.
Carl Knox Natatorium, located on the campus of Lawrence High School,
will be closed Dec. 22 through Jan. 7. It will reopen with its normal
operating hours on Monday, Jan. 8.
Recreation Instruction: There are no classes meeting during the
holidays. Winter program and Classes begin Sunday, Jan. 7.
Special Events: There will be the following Special Events programming
for children ages 5 to 12 years old running during the holiday season:
Holiday Happenings - Wednesday through Friday, Dec. 27 to 29 at Holcom
Park Recreation Center from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
New Year's Overnighter - Sunday to Monday, Dec. 31 to Jan. 1, at Holcom
Park Recreation Center from 8 p.m. (Dec. 31) to 8 a.m. (Jan. 1)
All Special Events require pre-registration. For more information,
contact Duane Peterson, Special Events supervisor, at 832-7940.
Youth Sports - There are no youth leagues currently in session.
Soccer/Futsal winter league play begins in February. Deadline for
registration is Thursday, Jan. 4.
Eagle Bend Golf Course And Learning Center - Sunday, Dec. 24, will be
open (weather permitting) for an 18-hole public shotgun from 9 a.m. to 2
p.m. Eagle Bend will be closed on Monday, Dec. 25. It will reopen on
Tuesday, Dec. 26, with its normal winter hours of operation, which are 9
a.m. to 4 p.m. (weather permitting). It will hold its normal hours of
operation for Sunday, Dec. 31, and Monday, Jan. 1.
