SANTA SPLASH, CALL FROM SANTA FUN WAY TO KICK OFF THE HOLIDAYS
LAWRENCE - Parents needing extra time to finish up last minute holiday
shopping will be able to utilize the Santa Splash program at the
Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Dr., Saturday, Dec. 16,
from 12:30 to 4 p.m.
Children will have fun making holiday crafts, playing games for holiday
prizes, splashing around in the pool, eating pizza and visiting with
Santa Claus himself. The program is open to children ages 5 to 12 years
old and cost $12 dollars per person.
If children have yet to visit Santa, Lawrence Parks and Recreation
Department has a way for children to receive a personal phone call from
jolly, old Saint Nick. The Calls From Santa program allows child to let
Santa know exactly what they want this holiday season. Cost is $2 per
call. Registrations must be received by Friday, Dec 15, by 6:30 p.m. to
ensure requests make it to Santa at the North Pole. Calls will be made
on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 16-17.
For more information regarding Santa Splash, please contact, Jai Hoyer,
aquatics programmer, at 832-7946 and for information regarding Calls
from Santa, please contact, Duane Peterson, special events supervisor,

GIFTS STILL BEING ACCEPTED FOR PARKS, PROGRAMS AND SCHOLARSHIP FUND
LAWRENCE - As the year winds to a close, individuals may want to direct
year-end charitable donations to Lawrence Parks and Recreation
Department.
Parks and Recreation's Friends of the Park program accepts donations for
park and program development, the Memorial Tree Program and the Wee
Folks Scholarship Fund.
The Memorial Tree Program allows contributors to commemorate a special
person, event or an accomplishment through the planting of a tree in a
public park. The donation of $225 will plant a new tree. Donations are
also accepted for the tree replacement program, which assists the
department in replacing damaged and dying trees.
The Wee Folks Scholarship Fund awards $15,000 annually for youth to
participate in department programs and activities and ensures programs
are available to all youth in Lawrence. Gifts are accepted in any amount
to the fund.

enhancements are also accepted. Large donations are also accepted
through the Douglas County Community Foundation.
