City offices to close Monday for Labor Day; recreation and aquatic
centers announce weekend schedules

 

(Lawrence, KS) - City offices will be closed Monday, September 4, in
observance of the Labor Day holiday.

 

City residents are asked to put grass clippings out with their normal
weekly trash pickup as city crews will not be picking up grass clippings
on Monday.  Commercial collections will be conducted as scheduled on
Monday, Labor Day.  

 

Lawrence Transit System will be closed on Monday, September 4 and no
buses (fixed route or paratransit) will run.  Lawrence Transit System
will resume regular service on Tuesday, September 5. 

 

Parking at meters in downtown Lawrence will be free on Monday.

 

To report a water or sewer emergency after business hours or during
weekends and holidays, contact the Utilities Department at (785)
843-2685.

 

All recreation facilities will be closed on Monday, September 4, which
includes: Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St.; Community
Building, 115 W. 11th St.; East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th
St. and South Park Recreation Center, 1141 Massachusetts St.  Prairie
Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St., will also be closed. 

 

There will also be no recreational classes, aquatic classes, special
populations activities, special events, adult sports or youth sports
held on the holiday.  The Special Populations program, Coffeehouse and
the Pre-Coffeehouse Dinner, which is held the first Monday of every
month has been moved to Tuesday, Sept. 5. For more details, please
contact the Special Populations Division at 832-7920.

 

Eagle Bend Golf Course, 1250 E. 902 Rd., will be accepting tee times
from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

 

Monday marks the last day the Outdoor Aquatic Center, 727 Kentucky St.,
will be open for the season. It will be open Monday from 1 to 8:45 p.m.

 

The Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Dr., will be open the following
hours: 

 

Lap Swimming
9 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.

Warm Water Lap Swim will take place 12 to 1 p.m.

Waterslide and Diving Area
1 to 7:30 p.m.

Zero Depth and Children's Area
1 to 7:45 p.m.
