Travel Training to be offered on the T

 

(Lawrence, KS) - The Lawrence Transit System will offer a travel training workshop to Lawrence residents on Saturday, October 8 at the Public Library from 10:00 am to 12: 15 pm.  "T" Time workshops are short-term travel training instruction designed to teach citizens to travel safely and independently on the "T" fixed-route bus system.

 
The workshop will focus on issues like timing points, trip planning, economic savings and safety involved with riding a "T" fixed route bus.  Workshop participants will learn travel skills through classroom and hands on instruction.  
 
Individuals benefiting from the workshop include;
 
-Seniors or individuals with disabilities experience an increased sense of confidence and self-reliance as a result of learning to travel independently. 
 
-For the individual preparing to finish school and enter job training, travel training is a complement to any specialized education curriculum. Success in this area often transfers to other endeavors in the person's life. 
 
-Parents and care providers can benefit, too. While they learn how capable the travel-trained student is, there is an opportunity for increased independence. 
 
The workshop is free and open to all members of the Lawrence community.  Participants are asked to complete an application by Tuesday, October 4, 2005.
