CITY INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS; BUS REROUTE
(LAWRENCE, KS) - The traffic control on Sixth Street between Folks Road and Wakarusa will change next week. Access to the residents and retail on the south side of Sixth Street in that stretch will move the to the apartment entrance requiring shopper to travel west through parking lots. Also, traffic on Wakarusa just south of Sixth Street will be moved from the east lanes to the west lanes.
City crews will be patching 23rd Street from Harper Avenue south to the city limits during the next two weeks. Intermittent lane closures will be necessary.
On going City infrastructure improvement projects for the week of Sept. 26 include:
Project: 13th and Oregon Storm Water Project
249 working days on the contract project began Mar. 9, 2004, 237 working days assessed and 12 working days remaining, as of Saturday, Sept. 18. Revised estimated completion date: late Sept., weather permitting.
Current traffic impact:
15th St., Haskell Ave. to Connecticut St., opened to through traffic on Sept. 21
New Jersey, 13th to 14th Street, opening to through traffic Sept. 28, weather permitting
Project: Storm water improvements
90 working days on the contract, project began May 16. Estimated completion date: September 30, weather permitting.
Traffic impact:
Eighth Street, Holiday Drive to Crawford Street, closed to through traffic. Local traffic maintained.
Project: 6th St.
6th St., Folks Road to Wakarusa Drive, traffic reduced to one lane in each direction to accommodate the reconstruction and widening. Lane reduction in place until approximately Oct. 1.
Wakarusa Drive, south of 6th Street reduced to one lane each direction
Project: Lake Point Drive, project complete
Traffic Impact:
Clinton Parkway, west of Wakarusa Drive, open to through traffic
Project: 2005 Mill and Overlay Program, phase two
Traffic impact:
Haskell Avenue, 12th Street to 15th Street, finish work underway, occasional lane closures
19th Street, Barker Avenue to Haskell Avenue, finish work underway, occasional lane closures
27th Terrace, Missouri Street to Louisiana Street, completed
Maverick Lane, 25th Terrace to 27th Street, parking removed from both sides of street
Project: 2005 Mill and Overlay Program, phase three
Traffic impact:
Bob Billings Parkway, Monterey Way to Inverness, completed
Jana Drive, Holiday Drive to Harvard Road, parking removed from both sides street
Crossgate Drive, Clinton Parkway to the cul-de-sac, parking removed
Greenbriar Drive, length of street, parking removed
Project: 2005 Concrete repair program
Traffic impact:
Tomahawk Drive, Lawrence Avenue to Rockfence Place, completed
Bob Billings Parkway, Wakarusa Drive to Foxfire Drive, occasional lane closures
10th Street, Kasold to Randall Road, occasional lane closures
Project: City crew street repair
Traffic impact:
East 26th Street, at Ryan Court, open to through traffic
Bob Billings Parkway, at Apple Lane, west bound traffic restricted to one lane, work completed Sept. 30, weather permitting.
Kasold, at W.24th Street, southbound traffic restricted to one lane, work completed Sept. 30, weather permitting.
Kasold, at W.25th Street, northbound traffic restricted to one lane, work completed Sept. 30, weather permitting.
23rd Street, Harper Avenue south to the city limits, intermittent lane closures work completed Oct. 7, weather permitting
Project: Monterey Way street, storm and water line project
Monterey Way, Stetson Drive to Peterson Road, closed to through traffic until Spring 2006
Peterson Road, both west and east of Monterey Way closed to through traffic until Spring 2006
McDonald Drive mill and overlay Kansas Turnpike Authority
McDonald Drive, toll booth to Iowa Street, lane interruptions maintaining through traffic, completed Sept. 28 (extended date), weather permitting
Ramps onto and off of McDonald Drive at Iowa Street, lane interruptions maintaining through traffic, completed Sept. 28 (extended date, weather permitting
Water line installation
Almira Street, 12th Street to 13th Street, parking removed, local traffic will be maintained. Work completed by Oct. 30, weather permitting.
Bus reroute
Wakarusa Construction Reroutes Route 6
Work on the intersection of Wakarusa Drive and Sixth Street south of Sixth Street puts traffic on Wakarusa Drive in the northbound lanes, providing one lane in each direction. Route 6 Clockwise will use a reroute during the lane restriction.
There will be no service on 6th Street between Wakarusa Drive and Folks Road. Passengers needing to board in the area will need to move to Overland Drive and Folks or on 6th Street east of Folks or on the eastside of Wakarusa Drive. Passengers boarding Route 6 Clockwise on the eastside of Wakarusa Drive are advised to board the bus at the most southern service drive into the shopping center due to construction closing the bus shelter.
Construction work on New Jersey Street reroutes the "T"
Construction on New Jersey Street between 13th and 14th Streets has rerouted Route 2. The street should be open to through traffic on Sept. 28. Bus riders are advised to catch the bus along Connecticut between 9th and 15th Streets. The bus will go back on route at Barker Street.
