CITY INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS; BUS REROUTE

 

(LAWRENCE, KS) - No new projects are scheduled to begin next week.

 

On going City infrastructure improvement projects for the week of Oct. 24 include:

 

Project: 6th St. 

6th St., Folks Road to Wakarusa Drive, traffic reduced to one lane in each direction to accommodate the reconstruction and widening.  Lane reduction in place through the end of the year.

Wakarusa Drive, south of 6th Street reduced to one lane each direction

 

Project: 2005 Mill and Overlay Program, phase two

Traffic impact:

Haskell Avenue, 12th Street to 15th Street, completed

 

Project: 2005 Mill and Overlay Program, phase three

Traffic impact:

Crossgate Drive, Clinton Parkway to the cul-de-sac, completed

25th Street, Iowa Street to Ridge Court, completed

Clifton Court, completed

 

Project: 2005 Concrete repair program

Traffic impact:

Bob Billings Parkway, Wakarusa Drive to Foxfire Drive, completed

10th Street, Kasold to Randall Road, completed

 

Project: Monterey Way street, storm and water line project

Monterey Way, Stetson Drive to Peterson Road, closed to through traffic until Spring 2006 

Peterson Road, both west and east of Monterey Way closed to through traffic until Spring 2006

 

Water line installation

Almira Street, 12th Street to 13th Street, parking removed, local traffic will be maintained.  Work completed by Oct. 30, weather permitting.

 

Bus reroutes

 

Wakarusa Construction Reroutes Route 6

Work on the intersection of Wakarusa Drive and Sixth Street south of Sixth Street puts traffic on Wakarusa Drive in the northbound lanes, providing one lane in each direction.  Route 6 Clockwise will use a reroute during the lane restriction.

 

There will be no service on 6th Street between Wakarusa Drive and Folks Road.  Passengers needing to board in the area will need to move to Overland Drive and Folks or on 6th Street east of Folks or on the eastside of Wakarusa Drive.  Passengers boarding Route 6 Clockwise on the eastside of Wakarusa Drive are advised to board the bus at the most southern service drive into the shopping center due to construction closing the bus shelter.

KU Homecoming Reroutes "T"  - ADVANCED NOTICE

The KU Homecoming Parade scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29 at 10 am will affect the Lawrence Transit System's service on Route 8. Oread Avenue between 12th and 13th Streets will be closed from 8 a.m. until the conclusion of the parade at approximately 11:30 a.m. Route 8 will travel as follows:

 

Outbound: From 9th Street the route will turn South onto Mississippi and travel onto Memorial Drive up and around and turn South on West Campus Road, returning to the regular route at the fountain. 

Inbound: North on West Campus Road, east on Memorial Drive down and around to merge North onto Mississippi turn East on 9th Street back on route.
