"T" Averages over 1400 Daily Riders in September

 

(Lawrence, KS) - The Lawrence Transit System gave an average of 1,413 rides a day during September.  The September ridership report reveals the "T" fixed route buses expanded ridership by 1,145 rides or an 11 percent increase compared to the previous month.  The "T" fixed route buses have expanded by 6,511 rides or a 23 percent increase compared to September 2004.  The expansion in ridership is met with an on time performance of 99.10 percent.  The passenger per revenue hour for September 2005 has increased to a system high of 10.14.  A revenue hour is when a transit vehicle is available to the general public and there is an expectation of carrying passengers.  

 

Third quarter findings reveal "T" fixed route ridership has increased by 17.7 percent compared to the 2004 third quarter.  The overall "T" fixed route system has seen a 17.85 percent increase in ridership for the first three quarters as compared to 2004. 

 

"I'm sure the peak in gas prices contributed to the increase in ridership," states Cliff Galante, public transit administrator for Lawrence Transit System.  Galante said "The "T" is safe and dependable.  It's good to see ridership going up, that means citizens are taking ownership in their system."
