DEPARTMENT TO SALE MULCH
LAWRENCE - The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department will have its annual mulch sale Thursday through Saturday, October 6-8, at 1420 E. 11th St., rain or shine.

The hours of the mulch sale are as follows:

Thursday, Oct. 6 - 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 7 - 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 8 - 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The mulch sale is to eliminate an excess amount of mulch the department has acquired over the past year. The cost of the sale will be $5 per pick up load, the price will be more for larger trucks.

The Lawrence Parks and Recreation doesn't purchase mulch throughout the year, instead it recycles trees that are cut down throughout the city. The trees are then ran through a chipper and used as mulch.

Mulch is a very helpful item when it comes to the growth of newly planted trees, when used in gardens, or used in flower gardens. Spreading mulch helps reduce the amount of water lost through evaporation, prevents excess run-off, restricts weed growth, and replaces valuable nutrients into your soil.

For more information, please contact Jim Beebe, forestry supervisor, at 785-832-7979.
