CPR training goes into homes

(Lawrence, KS) - The American Heart Association created a simple way for people to learn CPR in less than 25 minutes. CPR Anytime(tm) for Family and Friends is a self-directed CPR learning program.

Lawrence Douglas County Fire Medical officials encourage the community to get trained in CPR. CPR Anytime(tm) is an option for individuals who haven't been able to attend scheduled classes.

"The goal is to get every adult trained in CPR. More people trained in CPR can result in more lives saved," said Lt. Jim Saladin wit the Lawrence Douglas County Fire Medical Department. "Using CPR during a cardiac arrest is critical to helping an individual survive the arrest."

"Many people don't take a CPR course because they don't have time, are afraid of embarrassing themselves in the classroom, or don't think they'll ever have to provide CPR," said Lt. Saladin. "The American Heart Association has put together a product that removes those training obstacles."

The national cardiac arrest survival rate is 5 five percent or less and approximately 75 to 80 percent of sudden cardiac arrests occur at home. CPR Anytime(tm) will help individuals learn CPR and be prepared to do cardiopulmonary resuscitation when it is needed.

Annually, LDCFM trains more than 3500 individuals in first aid and CPR through monthly classes, staff training, in work settings and at schools. The CPR Anytime(tm) program provides a learning tool with a flexible schedule that families and community groups can use as their schedules allow. A single kit allows an entire family to learn CPR. The kit includes a one-of-a-kind inflatable CPR manikin, an instructional DVD that walks users through each step of the training, from inflating the manikin, to doing chest compressions and rescue breathing and a resource booklet.

CPR Anytime for Family and Friends kits may be purchased on line at cpranytime.org or by calling 1-877-AHA-4CPR.
