DUI enforcement van introduced 

(LAWRENCE, KS) - Lawrence Police Department's Traffic Unit to provide City Commissioners and media with a tour of the newest edition to the unit, a DUI enforcement van.

WHAT: The van is used for DUI/traffic enforcement including check lanes and saturation patrols.  The BAT van is equipped to provide breath alcohol analysis.  The van is also used for accident reconstruction providing officers work stations and resources to be used at an accident site.

WHO: In service since Sept. 8, the van will be opened for Commissioners and media tours by the Traffic Safety Unit of the Lawrence Police Department 

WHEN: on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 11 a.m. 

WHERE: The van will parked just east of the entrance to the Riverfront Mall in the cutout area. 

The van was purchased with a $96,000 Federal grant from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration administered by Kansas Department of Transportation.

Media will have an opportunity to see the van in action during a saturation patrol with check lanes on Friday, Nov. 18.  For additional information, contact Sergeant Dan Ward at 832-7551.
