Lawrence Douglas County Fire Medical Fire Chief appointed

 

(LAWRENCE, KS) - The City Manager has selected Mark Bradford as Chief of the Lawrence Douglas County Fire Medical Department.

 

Bradford, who has been serving as Acting Chief since the retirement of Chief Jim McSwain, took over the responsibilities today.  As Fire Chief, Bradford is responsible for all aspects of the Fire Medical Department including emergency medical and ambulance services, fire fighting, fire prevention and management of the departments' day to day activities.

 

Currently the department's Deputy Chief, Bradford competed with 20 applicants in a detailed interview process that included four interview panels of city and county leaders, department staff as well as industry experts in fire and medical services.  Candidates also completed essays and participated in a mock media briefing.

 

"Mark's experience with leading fire medical departments combined with his knowledge of Lawrence and Douglas County Fire Medical makes him an asset for the Lawrence community," Mike Wildgen, city manager said.  "I am pleased to appoint him as Fire Chief."

 

Mark Bradford joined the department in February 2001 after working at the International Association of Fire Chiefs and serving City of Lee's Summit for twenty-three years leaving as Assistant Fire Chief.  Bradford is currently pursuing a Masters of Public Administration degree at the University of Kansas.  He has extensive experience with budgeting and facility and service planning.  His annual salary will be $97,405.

 

Chief Bradford will be introduced to the City Commission before the beginning of tonight's meeting at City Hall.
