CONCERTS PLAY ROLE IN SUMMER
LAWRENCE - Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department will once again sponsor two concert series, one on Wednesday evenings and the other on Thursdays over the noon hour, for the summer season. Both series are free and open to the public.
With the support of the Rice Foundation, Lawrence Parks and Recreation will present the Lawrence City Band throughout the months of June and July every Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. at the William Kelly Bandstand, located in historic South Park. The Lawrence City Band is under the direction of Robert Foster.
Each week the band will play themed music. The following is the summer schedule:
Jun. 1 Gala Opening Concert
Jun. 8 Heritage and Tradition
Jun. 15 Stars and Stripes and Sousa
Jun. 22 Music From the British Isles
Jun. 29 Salute of Our Veterans and Celebrate America
July 6 Children's Concert
July 13 Latin Magic
July 30 The Grand Finale Concert
The Thursday Brown Bag Concert Series, co-sponsored by Lawrence Parks and Recreation and Downtown Lawrence, will continue every Thursday during the noon hour in front of U.S. Bank, 900 Massachusetts St.
Every Thursday at 12 to 1 p.m. throughout June and July a different band will be featured. The following is the summer schedule:

Jun. 9 Lonesome Hobos
Jun. 16 Key West Jazz Quartet
Jun. 23 Billy Ebeling and the Late for Dinner Band
Jun. 30 Borderline Country
July 7 Lonnie Ray Blues Band
July 14 Alfred Packer Memorial String Band
July 21 Tommy Johnson Experiment
July 28 The Konza Swamp Band
