Lawrence Transit System receives Award of Excellence

(Lawrence, KS) - The Lawrence Transit System received an Award of Excellence
from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) during the annual Kansas
Public Transit Association's (KPTA) conference.  The Award of Excellence was
presented to Karin Rexroad, Public Transit Administrator on September 14,
2004 for the Highest Percentage Increase in Ridership, Early Closeout of
Triennial Review Findings and Low Number of Open Grants in the Kansas Urban
Transit Program 2002-2003.  Mokhtee Ahmad, FTA Region 7 Regional
Administrator presented the award.  The Award of Excellence is based on the
four core accountabilities: Transit Ridership Growth, Safety and Security
Readiness, Major Project Cost Control and Grant Processing Efficiency.

FTA is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation functioning through a
Washington, DC headquarters office and ten regional offices which assist
transit agencies in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico,
the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and American Samoa.

The Lawrence Transit System travels throughout the community to businesses,
