Lawrence Transit System gives over a million rides
(Lawrence, KS) - The Lawrence Transit System has given over a million rides
between the "T" fixed route system and the T Lift paratransit service. The
system has given 1, 041,999 rides since its inception on December 16, 2000.
The August ridership report states that the "T" fixed route buses have
expanded by 3,880 rides, an average of 1,069 rides a day, or a 16 percent
increase compared to August 2003. The expansion in ridership is met with an
on time performance of 97.10 percent an improvement from 96.60 percent in
August of 2003. The passenger per revenue hour for August 2004 has
increased compared to August 2003. A revenue hour is when a transit vehicle
is available to the general public and there is an expectation of carrying
passengers. The passenger per revenue hour is up to 7.69 from 6.71 in
August of 2003.
"The Lawrence Transit System is growing consistently each month," explains
Karin Rexroad, public transit administrator for Lawrence Transit System.
Rexroad states "It's exciting to see August have such incredible gains in
ridership, passenger per revenue hour and on time performance considering
the implemented route enhancements at the beginning of the month."
The Lawrence Transit System travels throughout the community to businesses,
educational institutions and employment areas. For assistance with trip
planning call 312-7054 or visit www.lawrencetransit.org to see a route map
and timetable.
