City infrastructure improvement projects and transit reroutes
(LAWRENCE, KS) - Next week contractors will begin installing a sanitary
sewer line along Trail Road, between Jane Court and Roundabout Circle.
Occasional lane closures may be necessary as work is completed. The project
will be completed approximately Jan. 21, weather permitting.
Working days assessed for on going city infrastructure projects are as of
Oct. 23. On going city infrastructure improvement projects and transit
system reroutes for the week of Nov. 1 include:
Project: Downtown water line installation
120 working days on the contract, project began May 3, 101 working days
assessed and 19 working days remaining
Original estimated completion date: Sept. 17, weather permitting
Revised estimated completion date: Nov. 5, weather permitting
Current traffic impact:
11th Street, Tennessee to Massachusetts, intermittent lane closures and no
parking on the either side
Vermont Street, 9th Street to 11th Street, parking removed on the east side
of the street
Project: Barker and Pawnee water line installation
90 working days on the contract, project began June 7, 81 working days
assessed and 9 working days remaining
Original estimated completion date: Oct. 15, weather permitting
Revised estimated completion date: Nov. 5
Current traffic impact:
Pawnee, Massachusetts to Barker, no parking on north side
Barker Ave., E. 23rd Street to Pawnee, no parking on west side
Project: 13th and Oregon Storm water project
210 working days on the contract, project began March 9, 112 working days
assessed and 98 working days remaining
Original estimated completion date: Feb. 2005, weather permitting
Current traffic impacts:
Pennsylvania, closed 13th Street to 14th Street
13th Street, closed at Oregon
Project: O'Connell Road street improvements
KDOT contract calendar days, completed Nov. 19
Original estimated completion date: Nov. 19, weather permitting
Current traffic impact:
O'Connell Road, closed, 23rd Street to 27th Terrace
O'Connell Road, local traffic only 27th Terrace to N1300 Road
Project: 2004 overlay and concrete repair program, phase 3
52 working days on the contract (contract expanded for additional work),
work began August 9, 42 working days assessed, 10 days remain
Original estimated completion date: Oct. 29, weather permitting
Current traffic impacts:
Shelburn Place, Belle Crest Drive to cul-de-sac, parking removed, if weather
permits, paving will be completed on Friday, Oct. 29 and will complete the
project
Melrose Lane, 25th Street to 24th Terrace, intermittent lane interruptions,
if weather permits, paving will be completed on Friday, Oct. 29 and will
complete the project
24th Terrace, Melrose Lane to the cul-de-sac, intermittent lane
interruptions, if weather permits, paving will be completed on Friday, Oct.
29 and will complete the project
28th Terrace, Belle Haven Drive to Alabama Street, intermittent lane
interruptions, if weather permits, paving will be completed on Friday, Oct.
29 and will complete the project
Project: Trail Road sanitary sewer line
40 working days on the contract, work to begin Nov. 1
Estimated completion date: Jan. 21
Traffic impact:
Trail Road, Jane Court to Roundabout Circle, occasional lane closures

Lawrence Transit System will follow these reroutes on Oct. 29 and 30.
On Friday, October 29, and Saturday, October 30 the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic
Center will host the Annual Olathe Aquatics Spooktacular Swim Meet. The
staff at the Aquatic Center is expecting 500 athletes along with their
coaches, families and other spectators.
During this event the Lawrence Transit System will reroute Route 6 clockwise
and counterclockwise as follows:
Both routes will remain on Overland Drive and neither route will enter the
Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center. Passengers are encouraged to flag the bus
at a safe location along Overland Drive. Passengers who normally board the
bus along West 6th Street between Wakarusa and Folks Road are encouraged to
use the stops at 6th and Wakarusa or at 6th and Folks Road.
Transit drivers can provide detailed information about the re-route to
