City infrastructure improvement projects and transit reroutes
(LAWRENCE, KS) - The University of Kansas homecoming parade will close Oread
Avenue from 12th Street to 13th Street on Saturday, October 9 from 8 to
11:30am.
The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department will hold the Sesquicentennial
Mass. Street Mile on Sunday Oct. 10, 8:30a.m. blocking through traffic on
Massachusetts Street during the event from South Park to the 700 block.
Working days assessed for on going city infrastructure projects are as of
Oct. 2. On going city infrastructure improvement projects and ongoing
transit system reroutes for the week of Oct. 11 include:
Project: Downtown water line installation
120 working days on the contract, project began May 3, 90 working days
assessed and 30 working days remaining
Original estimated completion date: Sept. 17, weather permitting
Revised estimated completion date: Nov. 5, weather permitting
Current traffic impact:
11th St., Tennessee to Massachusetts, intermittent lane closure for
westbound traffic and no parking on the either side
Vermont St., 9th St. to 11th St., parking removed on the east side of the
street
Project: Barker and Pawnee water line installation
90 working days on the contract, project began June 7, 70 working days
assessed and 20 working days remaining
Original estimated completion date: Oct. 15, weather permitting
Revised estimated completion date: Nov. 5
Current traffic impact:
Pawnee, Massachusetts to Barker, no parking on north side
Barker Ave., E. 23rd St. to Pawnee, no parking on west side
Project: 13th and Oregon Storm water project
210 working days on the contract, project began March 9, 100 working days
assessed and 110 working days remaining
Original estimated completion date: Feb. 2005, weather permitting
Current traffic impacts:
Haskell Ave. closed 11th St. to 13th St., detour on 15th St. and Connecticut
12th St, closed at Haskell Ave.
Pennsylvania, closed 13th St. to 14th St.
Project: O'Connell Road. street improvements
KDOT contract calendar days, completed Nov. 19
Original estimated completion date: Nov. 19, weather permitting
Current traffic impact:
O'Connell Road, closed, 23rd Street to 27th Terrace
O'Connell Road, local traffic only 27th Terrace to N1300 Road
Project: 2004 overlay and concrete repair program, phase 3
50 working days on the contract, work began August 9, 33 working days
assessed, 18 days remain
Original estimated completion date: Oct. 29, weather permitting
Current traffic impacts:
Arkansas St., 24th St. to 25th St., completed
Belle Crest Dr., 25th St. to Belle Haven Dr., intermittent lane
interruptions
Shelburn Place, Belle Crest Drive to cul-de-sac, parking removed
Melrose Lane, 25th Street to 24th Terrace, intermittent lane interruptions
24th Terrace, Melrose Lane to the cul-de-sac, intermittent lane
interruptions
28th Terrace, Belle Haven Drive to Alabama Street, intermittent lane
interruptions
Project: Elmwood waterline, completed
Project: Johnson Avenue water line
Work being completed by city crews
Original estimated completion date: November 19, weather permitting
Current traffic impact:
Johnson Avenue, Learnard Avenue east to the end of Johnson Avenue, parking
restricted

Lawrence Transit System will follow these reroutes during the week of Oct. 9
The KU Homecoming Parade scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 9 at 10 am will affect
the Lawrence Transit System's service on Route 8. Oread Avenue between 12th
and 13th will be closed from 8:00 am until the conclusion of the parade at
approximately 11:30 am. Route 8 will use Mississippi to 11th Street to West
Campus Road during the closure. Transit drivers can provide detailed
information about the re-route to riders. For more information on routes and

Due to ongoing work on the storm water improvement project in the 13th an
Oregon area, Route 1 continues to reroute around the closure of Haskell
Avenue. Riders that catch Route 1 along Haskell Ave. between 15th and 11th
Streets will need to travel to the intersection of 15th and Haskell or 11th
and Delaware to catch the bus.
Route 1 from the downtown hub will take Delaware to 11th St. continuing on
to Connecticut then to 15th St. and back on the regular route at 15th Street
and Haskell Ave. The inbound trip will follow Haskell Ave. to 15th St. on
to Connecticut St. then to 11th Street and resume the regular route.
