City offices to close November 25 and 26 for Thanksgiving; recreation
centers holiday hours announced

(Lawrence, Kansas) -- City offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 25 and
Friday, Nov. 26, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Thursday, Nov. 25, residential solid waste collection will be moved to
Friday, Nov. 26.  Friday and Saturday commercial collection will be
completed as normal.

Lawrence Transit System and the T Lift will not run on Thursday, Nov. 25 and
will return to regular schedules on Friday, Nov. 28.

Parking at meters in downtown Lawrence will be free on Thursday however,
Friday and Saturday shoppers will need to pay to park during regular hours
from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To report a waterline break on a holiday or weekend, call 843-2685.

Parks and Recreation announces the following hours of operation for the
Thanksgiving holiday.

Recreation Centers:  East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St.;
South Park Recreation Center, 1141 Massachusetts St.; Holcom Park Recreation
Center, 2700 W. 27th St. and the Community Building, 115 W. 11th St. will
close at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24.  All centers will remain closed on
Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 25.  East Lawrence Recreation Center,
Holcom Park Recreation Center and the Community Building will re-open on
Friday, Nov. 26, from 12 to 6 p.m. but the offices will be closed. Since
there are no classes or sports scheduled Free Play hours will be available
the entire time the centers will be open.  

Special Populations:  There are no scheduled activities the entire week,
Nov. 24-30. Programs will resume on Monday, Dec. 1.

Adult Sports:  There are no programs scheduled for Nov. 24-30. Programs will
resume on Monday, Nov. 29. 

Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St., will be closed on Thursday,
Nov. 27.  They will hold regular hours beginning on Friday.

Regularly scheduled free programs on Saturday and Sunday will be held, which
include: Saturday Morning Free Program from 10 to 10:30 a.m.

Aquatic Division:  Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, will hold the
following hours:

Wednesday, Nov. 24 
Lap Swimming - 5:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. (Warm Water Lap Swimming) - 12 to 1
p.m.
Zero Depth and Children's Area - 1 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. 
Waterslide and Diving Area - 1 to 4:30 p.m.
 
The center will be closed Thursday, Nov. 25.  It will reopen on Friday, Nov.
26, with holiday hours. The Competitive Pool will be open from 9 a.m. to
7:45 p.m. for lap swimming and the Zero Depth and Children's Area will be
open from 1 to 7:45 p.m. Warm Water Lap Swimming will be held from 12 to 1
p.m. The Waterslide and Diving Area will be open from 1 to 7:30 p.m.

The pool will resume its regular operating hours on Saturday, Nov. 27. 

Carl Knox Natatorium, located on the campus of Lawrence High School, will be
open Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 22-23 at its regular hours - 6:15 to 8:30 p.m.
for lap swimming.  It will be closed Wednesday through Sunday, Nov. 24-28.
It will reopen on Monday, Nov. 29, at its regular operating hours, starting
at 6:15 p.m. 

There are no scheduled programs or classes scheduled during the week but for
individuals interested in water aerobics, the division is offering drop-in
classes on Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 22-23 at the Indoor Aquatic Center.
Those paying daily admission rates can take part in the following programs:

Monday, Nov. 22
Dawn Patrol - 6:30 to 7:30 a.m.
Aqua Abs - 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.
Shallow Shakers - 8:15 to 9 a.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 23
Wet 'N Wild - 6:30 to 7:30 a.m.
Water Warriors - 6:30 to 7:30 a.m.
TNT - 6:45 to 7:45 p.m.

Recreation Instruction:  There are no classes meeting during the holiday.

Special Events:  There are no Special Events planned during the week of
Thanksgiving.

Youth Sports - There are no games scheduled for the weekend of Thanksgiving.
