"T" gave nearly 30,000 rides in October

(Lawrence, KS) - The "T" gave nearly 30,000 rides in October.  The "T"
transported 29,775 riders on the fixed route system during the month of
October.  Together the "T" and T Lift had 33,878 riders for October.  

The October ridership report states that the "T" fixed route has expanded by
4,433 rides, an average of 1,145 rides a day, or a 17.5 percent increase
compared to October 2003.  The expansion in ridership is met with an on time
performance of 98.84 percent an improvement from 96.11 percent in October of
2003.  The passenger per revenue hour for October 2004 has increased
compared to October 2003.  A revenue hour is when a transit vehicle is
available to the general public and there is an expectation of carrying
passengers.  The passenger per revenue hour is up to 8.21 from 6.83 in
October of 2003.

On October 7, the Lawrence Transit System celebrated Communities in Motion
Day a national event focusing on public transportation.  The "T" had its
highest ridership for the month of October on Communities in Motion day with
1,319 rides given.  The "T" also hit a Saturday ridership milestone of
giving 1,197 rides on October 23.  Both ridership days were free ridership
days to the public.

"It's exciting to see the "T" ridership growing and achieving more
passengers per revenue hour"," Rexroad states "Our stats are a reflection of
the hard work the Lawrence Transit System provides to have safe, dependable
and convenient transportation as well as the support of the community".
