ENROLLMENT TO BEGIN MONDAY
LAWRENCE - The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department announces enrollment
for Summer 2004 classes and activities will begin Monday, April 5, at its
recreation facilities. 

The 2004 Summer Activities Guide will be distributed through the Sunday,
April 4, edition of the Lawrence Journal-World, as well as at any Parks and
Recreation Department facility including the: Community Building, 115 West
11th St.; East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 East 15th St.; Holcom Park
Recreation Center, 2700 West 27th St.; Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706
Overland Drive; Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St.; Eagle Bend Golf
Course and Learning Center, 1250 902 Road, and South Park Recreation Center,
1141 Massachusetts St.  Courses available can also be found on-line at
www.lprd.org <http://www.lprd.org> .

Citizens have several options for registering for classes including online,
faxing, mailing or visiting a neighborhood recreation center, the nature
center or the Indoor Aquatic Center.  Online enrollment can be accessed from
a link on the Lawrence Parks and Recreation website at www.lprd.org
<http://www.lprd.org> .  Online enrollment will begin Sunday, April 4.

The department has developed over 450 programs and activities in which
citizens may participate.  Programs and activities range from swim lessons
to strength training for seniors and from tennis to the Mass Street Mile.

All program registration is done on a first-come, first-serve basis. Certain
classes and programs have minimum or maximum enrollment. Registration is
required before the first class meets.  Waiting lists will be formed when
programs are filled and every attempt will be made to accommodate people on
waiting lists.

Discounts are available for adults over 60 years of age, and the department
also has a scholarship program for those needing assistance with payment.
Scholarship applications are available at all recreation centers. No one
meeting scholarship criteria will be denied participation in any department
program.

EGG HUNTS SCHEDULED
LAWRENCE -Peter Cottontail may be hopping down the bunny trail soon, but
he'll take a detour this Friday to celebrate the holiday with a splash at
the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center.  Then on Saturday he'll hop on over to
the Parks and Recreation / Hy-Vee Egg Hunt Eggstravaganza at South Park.

The Lawrence Parks and Recreation's Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland
Drive, will host the Underwater "EGG"stravaganza on Friday, April 9, from
5:30 to 7:45 p.m., for children ages 2 to 8 years old. 

Children will begin the "EGG"stravaganza by decorating their own baskets for
collecting eggs at 5:30 p.m. Children wanting to participate in the basket
decorating need to be pre-registered.

The underwater egg hunt will begin at 6:35 p.m. sharp when eggs will be
hunted throughout the shallow and deep ends of the pool. Children may
collect a maximum of eight eggs that can be turned in for prizes. Cost of
the program is $3.

Saturday, April 10, the Special Events Division of Parks and Recreation,
along with Hy-Vee, will host the annual Egg Hunt Eggstravaganza in South
Park, 1131 Massachusetts St., from 1 to 3:30 p.m.  The event is free and
open to the public. Children participating must check in prior to hunting.
Check in will be done by last name at the William Kelly Bandstand in South
Park - last names beginning with A through M, 1 to 2 p.m.; N through Z, 2 to
3:30 p.m.

Children may collect a maximum of 5 eggs during the hunt.  The Easter Bunny
will be on hand and will be available for photos. There will also be games
and other activities for children.
