Transit System Reroutes Routes 5 and 7 Permanently
(Lawrence, KS) - Lawrence Transit System will permanently reroute route 5
and 7 due to the installation of a traffic signal light at 31st and Nieder
Road. The anticipated date of activation of the signal light and the
permanent reroute is Monday, May 3, 2004.
Upon activation of the signal light, the westbound 5 and inbound 7 departing
33rd and Four Wheel Drive will turn left from 33rd Street onto Nieder Road
and enter westbound 31st Street from Nieder Road using the new signal light.
Route 7 will follow the original route for the shuttle around the shopping
areas east of Iowa and will only use the reroute on Nieder Road when heading
northbound to downtown.
"This permanent reroute will provide benefits," explains Karin Rexroad,
public transit administrator "Improved timing by avoiding two traffic lights
on Iowa where we currently can't pick up passengers since we are in the left
turn lane and improved service to the retail area between 31st and 33rd on
Nieder Road".
Transit drivers can provide detailed information about the permanent
re-route to riders.
