City offices to close November 27 and 28 for Thanksgiving;  recreation
centers schedules altered

(Lawrence, Kansas) -- City offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27 and
Friday, Nov. 28, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Thursday, Nov. 27, residential solid waste collection will be moved to
Friday, 
Nov. 28.  Friday and Saturday commercial collection will be completed as
normal.

Lawrence Transit System and the T Lift will not run on Thursday, Nov. 27 and
will return to regular schedules on Friday, Nov. 28.

Parking at meters in downtown Lawrence will be free on Thursday but Friday
and Saturday shoppers will need to pay to park during regular hours from
9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Parks and Recreation hours of operation for the Thanksgiving holiday follow.

Recreation Centers:  East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St.;
South Park Recreation Center, 1141 Massachusetts St.; Holcom Park Recreation
Center, 2700 W. 27th St. and the Community Building, 115 W. 11th St. will
close at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26.  All centers will remain closed on
Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 27.  East Lawrence Recreation Center,
Holcom Park Recreation Center and the Community Building will re-open on
Friday, Nov. 28, from 12 to 6 p.m. but the office will be closed. Since
there are no classes or sports scheduled Free Play hours will be available
the entire time the centers will be open.

The centers will resume normal operation hours on Saturday, Nov. 29, which
is:

East Lawrence Recreation Center: 
8 a.m. to 10 p.m.  - Monday through Thursday
8 a.m. to 9 p.m. - Fridays
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. - Saturdays
1 to 6 p.m. - Sundays
Free Play Hours
1:30 to 5 p.m.  - Monday through Thursday
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. - Saturdays
1 to 6 p.m. - Sundays

Holcom Park Recreation Center:
7 a.m. to 10 p.m. - Monday through Thursday
7 a.m. to 9 p.m. - Fridays
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. - Saturdays
1  to 6 p.m. - Sundays
Free Play Hours
1:30 to 5 p.m. - Monday through Friday
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. - Saturdays

Community Building
7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.  - Monday through Thursday

Special Populations:  There are no scheduled activities the entire week,
Nov. 24-30. Programs will resume on Monday, Dec. 1.

Adult Sports:  There are no programs scheduled for Nov. 24-30. Programs will
resume on Monday, Dec. 1.

Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St., will be closed on Thursday,
Nov. 27.  They will hold regular hours beginning on Friday, which are
Mondays - Closed
Tuesdays through Saturday - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sundays - 1 to 4 p.m.
Regularly scheduled free programs on Saturday and Sunday will be held, which
include: Saturday Morning Free Program from 10 to 10:30 a.m.  Topic to be
covered: Animal Myths; Sunday Afternoon Free Program from 1:30 to 2 p.m.
Topic to be covered: Animal Myths.

Aquatic Division:  Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, will be
closed Nov. 26 and 27.  It will reopen on Friday, Nov. 28 with holiday
hours. The Lap Pool will be open from 10 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. and the Leisure
Pool will be open from 1 to 7:45 p.m.

The pool will resume its regular operating hours on Saturday, Nov. 29.
Regular hours are the following: 

Lap Swimming
Monday through Friday - 5:15 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.
Saturday - 9:00 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.
Sunday - 1 to 5:45 p.m.

Waterslide and Diving Area
Monday - Friday - 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Saturday - 1 to 7:30 p.m.
Sunday - 1 to 5:30 p.m.

Warm Water Lap Swim will take place daily, Monday through Friday, from 12 to
2 p.m. 

Zero Depth and Children's Area
Monday - Friday (except Wednesday) - 3:30 to 7:45 p.m.
Wednesday - 2:30 to 7:45 p.m.
Saturday - 1 to 7:45 p.m.
Sunday - 1 to 5:45 p.m.

Carl Knox Natatorium, located on the campus of Lawrence High School, will be
closed Nov. 26-30. It will reopen on Monday, Dec. 1, with regular operating
hours, which are:  
Lap Swimming - Monday through Thursday - 6:15 to 8:30 p.m.
Friday through Sunday - Closed.

Recreation Instruction:  There are no classes meeting during the holiday.
Special Events:  There are no Special Events planned during the week of
Thanksgiving.

Youth Sports - There are no games scheduled for the weekend of Thanksgiving.

Eagle Bend Golf Course - A 9a.m. shot gun start will be held.  Positions are
still available.
