Citizens have opportunity to serve as advisors
(Lawrence, Kansas) - Sixteen Lawrence citizens are needed to volunteer for
city boards and committees. Several advisory board terms expire in December
of each year and Mayor David Dunfield is looking for citizens who want to
get involved.
Currently forty advisory boards serve the Lawrence City Commission providing
input and advice on subjects ranging from bicycles to recycling and resource
conservation. Advisory boards serve the City Commission by being experts in
a specific area. Boards are able to advise and suggest methods or practices
that meet the goals in an area.
"I encourage people to be open to opportunities for involvement in the
community. Those opportunities can lead to rewards and experiences you may
never have imagined," explains David Dunfield, mayor. Dunfield continues,
"Boards and committees provide great value to the City Commission and the
willingness of people to share their time, energy and thoughts is critical
in providing that value."
Appointments to boards vary from two to four years. A majority of boards
meet monthly with some tasks occurring outside the regular meetings.
Appointments are recommended by the Mayor and must be approved by the City
Commission.
Listed below are existing and upcoming vacancies on City of Lawrence
Advisory Boards. If interested in serving on any of the boards, citizens
should send a letter of interest to the Mayor, P.O. Box 708, Lawrence,
