City infrastructure improvement projects

(LAWRENCE, KS) - Replacement of the crosswalk at 7th and Massachusetts
Streets on the south side of 7th Street will begin next week and will close
Massachusetts Street to through traffic just south of 7th Street.
Contractors will rebuild the crosswalk using stamped reinforced concrete and
should complete the work by Friday, October 31, weather permitting.

The following week, on November 3, contractors will begin rebuilding the
crosswalk on Massachusetts Street north of 11th Street.  The work will close
Massachusetts Street to through traffic just north of 11th Street.  The
project should be completed by Friday, November 7, weather permitting.

Traffic control for both projects will permit u-turns on Massachusetts.

Also next week, a contractor working for the Utilities Department will be in
the railroad right-of-way to relocate a sanitary sewer near 4th and
Louisiana Streets.  Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad will also be
working at the location. The project should be confined to the railroad
right-of-way and not affect traffic.  Work should be completed by November
7.

Concrete repairs will begin next week at 15th and Kasold Streets.  Work will
reduce eastbound traffic to one lane.  The project should be completed by
November 7, weather permitting.

On going City infrastructure improvement projects for the week of October 27
include:

Line installation
Walnut St., 600 block, closed to east and west traffic during the work day,
completed approximately October 31

Mill and overlay and curb repair
Emerald Drive, 19th Terr. to 21st St., completed

9th Street, Iowa to Rockledge, traffic interruptions and expect temporary
closure for one day while paving, completed approximately October 31,
weather permitting

N Iowa, Princeton Avenue to Peterson Road, completed

Rockledge, 9th St. to Yale Ave., traffic interruptions and expect temporary
closure for one day while paving, completed approximately October 31,
weather permitting

9th St. Terr. to Yale Ave. intersection, traffic interruptions and expect
temporary closure for one day while paving, completed approximately October
31, weather permitting

Steven Drives, Wellington Road to Lawrence Avenue, traffic interruptions and
expect temporary closure for one day while paving, completed approximately
October 31, weather permitting

8th St., Kentucky to New Hampshire, completed

21st St., Kentucky to Massachusetts St., expect road closure one day,
completed approximately October 31, weather permitting

24th St., Ousdahl Rd. to Ridge Ct., completed

Concrete repairs
East Hills Dr., traffic interruptions, completed approximately October 31,
weather permitting

Greenway Cir., traffic interruptions, completed approximately October 31,
weather permitting

15th St. at Kasold, one lane of east bound traffic, completed approximately
November 7, weather permitting

Intersection improvements
6th Street, intersection of Kasold Dr., reduced to one lane in each
direction, completed approximately December 31, weather permitting

Kasold Dr., north of 6th St., reduced to one lane each direction, completed
approximately December 31, weather permitting

6th Street, intersection of Comet Ln, westbound traffic reduced to one lane

Frontier Rd, Mesa Way to 6th St., closed to through traffic, completed
approximately December 31, weather permitting

6th St., intersection of Lawrence Ave., westbound traffic reduced to one
lane, completed approximately December 31, weather permitting

Road improvements
15th Street and Research Park Drive, eastbound traffic reduced to one lane
during the day, completed approximately November 7 (date extended), weather
permitting

16th and Wakarusa Drive, southbound traffic reduced to one lane during the
day, completed approximately October 30, weather permitting

11th Street, east of Haskell Avenue closed from Haskell Avenue east to the
railroad tracks, completed approximately January 30, 2004, weather
permitting

Crosswalk improvements
Massachusetts St., south of 7th Street, closed to through traffic, completed
approximately October 31, weather permitting
