FREE HAYRACK RIDES AVAILABLE DURING SESQUICENTENNIAL COMMISSION EVENT
LAWRENCE -In conjunction with the Lawrence Sesquicentennial Commission's
event at the site of the future Sesquicentennial Plaza, located in the
regional park being developed for in the 1612-acre, leased area from the
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, east of the dam at Clinton Lake, the Lawrence
Parks and Recreation Department will be conducting free hayrack rides
throughout the course of the event.

The Sesquicentennial Commission's program runs from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct.
12. There will be free lemonade, cider and donuts. The Junkyard Jazz band
will be entertaining with their unique jazz sound, as well as Melanie Dill,
a local folk balladeer, will be providing stories through music. A short
presentation will take place at 3:45 p.m.

Clenece Hills, president of the Sesquicentennial Commission, said the event
is being held to provide the community with an opportunity to view the area
proposed for the plaza.

"There is a beautiful view from the location," Hills said. "It is simply
breathtaking. It is so important for our community to stop and reflect on
all that has been accomplished over the 150 years since the city was
founded. We need to pay tribute to everyone who has made Lawrence the city
that it is today. I feel this site will provide that and will also help
cultivate dreams of Lawrence's future growth and development."

The proposed site can be accessed by heading west on Clinton Parkway to the
Clinton Dam Road; turning south on Clinton Dam Road to the first road on the
left (east). Follow the signs to the Off-Leash Dog Park and then follow
signage for parking and directional signs to the site.

A number of chairs will be provided, but Hills suggests participants bring
blankets or lawn chairs to enjoy the program.

In case of inclement weather, the event will take place on Sunday, Oct. 26.
