3rd Annual Home Energy Conservation Fair
(Lawrence, Kansas) - Knowledge is Power! If reducing your gas and electric
bills this fall is important to you, please plan on attending Lawrence's 3rd
Annual Lawrence Home Energy Conservation Fair! The Fair is being held on
Sunday, October 19, 2003 from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm at the Douglas County
Fairgrounds, Building 21, 2120 Harper Street.
This year's fair will feature several exhibitors, including area architects,
appliance stores, energy efficiency consultants, and heating and cooling
specialists. Other exhibitors will offer information concerning insulation,
lighting, plumbing, window treatments, passive solar structures and hybrid
fuel cars. Featured speakers include a certified Home Energy Rater, Kansas
Legislative Update and an Installer of home solar and wind energy systems.
Concurrent with the Home Energy Conservation Fair is the Heartland Renewable
Energy Society's 2003 Douglas County Sustainable Homes Tour. This year's
bus tour features homes with passive solar design, straw bale construction,
solar panels and structural insulated panels. Bus tours are $5 and will
leave at 10:00 am and 2:00pm. Please call 832-3030 to reserve your seat!
A special addition to this year's fair is a campaign kick-off to increase
awareness and eventual purchase of energy efficient compact fluorescent
light bulbs. With the help from a grant from the Kansas Corporation
Commission, the Waste Reduction and Recycling Division has developed a
series of vouchers that are redeemable from participating local retailers
towards the purchase of energy-saving compact fluorescents bulbs. Those
attending this year's Home Energy Conservation Fair will receive a free
voucher. Additionally, visitors to the fair can pick up free vouchers and a
limited number of Energy Star compact fluorescents will be available at the
fair for immediate purchase.
