OUTDOOR AQUATIC CENTER WILL BE GOING TO THE DOGS

LAWRENCE - The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department's Outdoor Aquatic
Center will be going to the dogs . . . literally.

 

The Parks and Recreation Aquatic Division will hold a program for dogs and
their owners called "The Pooch Plunge" on Tuesday, Sept. 2, from 3 to 8 p.m.
at the Outdoor Aquatic Center, 727 Kentucky St. The program allows dogs to
beat the heat and take a swim in the pool before it is drained for the
season. There will also be a special treat for dogs attending the program.
Cost is $2 per dog and pre-registration is required.

 

The Pooch Plunge is the brainchild of Rob Wyrick, aquatics programmer. He
said other communities have hosted the event for several years and it has
been very successful.

 

"It's a chance for owners and pets to have an activity together," Wyrick
said. "It's not too often that you see a puppy pool party.  It should be fun
for both the dogs and the owners." 

 

Dogs participating must have all current vaccinations and be under the
control of an owner at all times while out of the water.

 

Individuals may register their dogs for the program online at the
department's online registration website at www.lprd.org or by visiting any
Parks and Recreation facility including the Community Building, 115 W. 11th
St.; East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St.; Holcom Park
Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St.; Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper
St.; South Park Recreation Center, 1141 Massachusetts St., Lawrence Indoor
Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive and the Outdoor Aquatic Center.
