City infrastructure improvement projects

(LAWRENCE, KS) - The construction of the geometric improvements at the
intersection 6th and Kasold Drive will begin the week of August 11.
Improvements include constructing double left turn lanes with a median for
both eastbound and westbound traffic on 6th Street and lengthening the
existing left turn lanes on Kasold Drive for both northbound and southbound
traffic.  The project also includes the installation of a new traffic signal
as well as the construction, or reconstruction, of sidewalks.

In the beginning phase of construction, traffic on 6th Street will be
reduced to one lane in each direction.  Left turn lanes will be maintained
as much as possible.  The project should be completed by approximately
December 31, weather permitting.

As work on the waterline replacement along Jayhawk Boulevard continues,
Jayhawk Blvd will be open to eastbound traffic from West Campus Road to 13th
Street.  Westbound traffic along Jayhawk Boulevard will still continue to be
detoured at Poplar Lane.  In addition, 13th Street from Louisiana to Oread
will be restricted to westbound traffic only.  

On going City infrastructure improvement projects for the week of August 11
include:

Storm sewer improvements
21st St., closed, Massachusetts St. to Barker and Massachusetts to Kentucky,
completed approximately August 15, weather permitting

Kentucky, closed, 20th St. to 22nd St.

Vermont, closed from 20th St. to 22nd St.

Rhode Island, 20th St. to 22nd St., closed to through traffic, completed
approximately August 15 (date extended due to utility relocations), weather
permitting

27th St., Belle Haven to Louisiana, closed until mid August, sidewalk to be
completed by August 13, weather permitting

Line installation
Jayhawk Blvd., West Campus Rd. to 13th Street, one-way eastbound 

13th Street, Louisiana to Oread, westbound traffic only

Nebraska St., Vermont to Kansas St., completed 

Ohio Street, north of Dakota Street, completed approximately August 30,
weather permitting

Mill and overlay and curb repair
North 3rd St., Industrial Ln. north to the City limits, traffic restricted
to one lane each direction, completed approximately mid-August, weather
permitting

Clinton Parkway, Crossgate to Wakarusa, narrowed to one lane, completed by
approximately August 15, weather permitting

23rd St., Learnard to Harper St., completed

Inverness, open to through traffic at the intersection with Clinton Parkway

Intersection improvements
6th Street, intersection of Kasold Drive, reduced to one lane in each
direction completed approximately December 31, weather permitting
