CLINTON PARK DEVELOPMENT MEETING SCHEDULED

LAWRENCE - Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department and the Pinckney
Neighborhood Association will hold a public meeting to collect input for
future improvements to Clinton Park, 901 W. 5th, Wednesday, August 27, at
5:30 p.m. at the Clinton Park Shelter. The public is invited to attend.

David Hamby, from BG Consulting and a consultant for the project, will
gather information from citizens that use the park on a regular basis or
live in the neighborhoods surrounding the park. Information collected will
then assist in the development of a master plan.

The master plan is being funded through a Community Block Development Grant,
which the Pinckney Neighborhood recently received.

For questions regarding the Clinton Park plan, please contact Mark Hecker,
parks maintenance superintendent, at 785-832-3450.

CLASS EXHIBITION PLANNED

LAWRENCE - Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is offering an
opportunity for individuals to try out several classes offered by the
department for free the week of September 2-6 as part of a Class Exhibition.

The Class Exhibition is designed to allow individuals to test classes prior
to the actual start of fall classes, which begin the week of September 8.

"The Class Exhibition will give people an opportunity to experience a class
if they aren't sure what a particular course is all about," Jo Ellis,
recreation program supervisor, said. "It's very helpful, especially with
fitness classes. If someone is just getting started in a regular workout
program, being able to test a course like Boot Camp or Cardio Combat will
give people an idea of what to expect for the duration of a fall class. I
like to think of it like a test drive. You can test drive the class before
you decide to enroll."

The Class Exhibition includes classes in fitness, martial arts, kid's
activities and other special interest classes. For a complete list of
classes offered in the exhibition, please stop by or contact any of the
department's recreation centers in town or visit the Parks and Recreation
website at www.lprd.org.

Registration is required and because of safety concerns space is limited.
Registration for the free sessions will only be accepted at South Park
Recreation Center, 1141 Massachusetts St., 832-7930.

For more information about recreation instruction classes offered through
Parks and Recreation, please contact Ellis at 832-7930.
