ONLINE ENROLLMENT: A NEW WAY TO ENROLL COMING THIS FALL
LAWRENCE - Enrolling in Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department's
recreational classes and activities is about to get easier for citizens who
are unable to make it to one of the department's recreation centers during
their hours of operation. Starting this fall, enrollment in classes and
activities can be done online.
A link from the department's website, www.lprd.org, will provide citizens
access to the online enrollment process.
"I believe online enrollment will make it convenient for people to register
for Parks and Recreation programs on their time schedule," Ernie Shaw,
recreation and operations superintendent, said. "No matter if it's early in
the morning or late at night, they will be able to enroll in the programs
they want."
The addition of online registration is part of the continued e-Gov
initiatives to provide customer-friendly, operating efficiencies to online
City services.
Tim Laurent, recreation facilities supervisor, has overseen the development
of the online registration process and sees it as great way for people to
enroll.
"The system we are using is very user friendly," Laurent said. "It allows
you to search courses by the type of activity, the age of participants and
by the time of day you want to take classes.
"So, if you have a four year old that wants to do an arts and crafts
activity between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., you'll be able to pull all the classes
that fit that criteria and then select the course or courses you want to
enroll in."
Laurent said those unsure of how to enroll online can also access a help
page that is linked from the online registration page or they can contact
the department for assistance.
If a citizen has enrolled in a program or activity through Parks and
Recreation sometime between January 2000 and present, they can log in using
their phone number and last name. Citizens can also register as a new user
by creating a household account.
Citizens will also be able to enroll in classes featured in the 2003 Fall
Activities Guide by fax, mail or by visiting a neighborhood recreation
center, the Indoor Aquatic Center or Prairie Park Nature Center. The
activity Guide will be distributed through the Sunday, August 3, edition of
the Lawrence Journal-World, as well as at any Parks and Recreation
Department facility including the: Community Building, 115 West 11th St.;
East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 East 15th St.; Holcom Park Recreation
Center, 2700 West 27th St.; Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland
Drive or South Park Recreation Center, 1141 Massachusetts St. Courses
available can also be found online at www.lprd.org using the online
registration link. Individuals can log as a guest of the system to view
classes available, but will not be allowed to enroll without logging into
their user id.
Fall classes begin the week of September 8, 2003.
For addition information regarding Park and Recreation activities and online
enrollment, contact the department at 785-832-7920.
